Whatever happened to the Hype! Awards?

I'm seeing threads in which people are asking to nominate their favorite (fill in the blank) but that isn't an official award. Whatever happened to the Hype! Awards? I remember we had like two of those in 2001 and `02 then...no more.

They were conducted by Mirko, Malice, and all the other mods. They only did it for like two years.

Malice set up a seperate Forum back in 2002 for Hype Award Nominations, and certain posters were set up temporarily as mods to count all the votes.

fibber started the first awards in 2001 and then in 2002, Malice & Co. named HWD & redmarvel as moderators to the Awards forums, which upset fibber to no end. He ended up becoming an "unofficial" Awards moderators (without real mod powers t: )

I was voted Poster with the Best Comic Book Knowledge 2 years in a row...
As well as Poster with Best Music Knowledge in 2001.

The Hype Awards have never been seen since.

this place changes on a weekly basis.. people come and go....

I don't even see some of the mods.. hardly... things change in this place all the time...

I never won anything but I was nominated for Most Insightful Thread for that Freedom of Speech that everyone hated. lol.

Nor was Bobby... though he was a mod back then.

I remember they were involved to some extent. But, it seems like you have better memory of this than I do so I'll take your word for it.

I remember an awards done recently,but it was done poorly and no one took it seriously since no mods were around to keep the peace.I guess why no one does it anymore is a combination of being busy and lazy,i wouldnt mind being a part of one..

It does require some help from the mods to put the stickies up in the Forums. However the biggest thing that is required is "honest" and "hard working" judges. Trust me on this, it was NOT easy to be an Award co-ordinator (better word than judge). I created an Excel spreadsheet for each Category of the awards. In each spreadsheet I had columns for the Nominees and Lines for the people who had nominated them (to prevent people from voting twice in the Same Category). Based on the totals I took the top 10 nominations (that's the most polls would allow at the time) and created a poll for final voting.

I think you're thinking of Kipobe's awards. While they are entertaining, it's really just a chance for him to be a *****e to everyone and have them thank him for it.

The Hype Awards were a hotbed of corruption and bribery, and some say that they even had ties to organized crime. Once the commissioner got a hold of solid proof of its corruption, he had them shut down. Permanently. And anyone who reinstates them will immediately go to Hype jail forever.

I miss the Hype! Awards. I want to run 'em this year. To make it easier, just shore down the topic list a little bit. Seriously. Make me an "Award Coordinator". God that's a stupid name. I nominate redmarvel for the worst judgment in the history of earth award.
