For those of you -- like me -- who's been wondering what this hot artist is going to be doing next... I was HOPING it would be more Spider-Man... but alas... his upcoming projects are titles I have zero interest in. Boo. :(

http://www.newsarama.com/general/deodato/interview.html

Deodato has done some (if not most) of my favorite Spider-Man pictures... I was just thinking that ASM #533 -- a great read -- would have been much better with Deodato on the pencils... Sigh.

Deodato was the ONLY thing good about Sins Past...

His art on other titles has been great too... but I don't CARE about other characters. I want him back on Spider-Man!

I saw someone with a tattoo of that... It looked great. Morbid, but great

Deaodato's amazing. It sucks SO much that he jumped on board right at the time that one of the universally most hated runs of Spidey occured...

I miss him alot on ASM. I really wanted to see him draw Doc Ock. He's such an amazing artist.

That's right... we never got to see his Ock. Too bad.

JMS wanted him on his new title,
Squadron Supreme (in October). Can't say I blame him... Deodato's art kept his stupid Sins Past arc from being a TOTAL fiasco.

Deodato was the best thing that happened to ASM in a long long time. It's a shame that he's moved on to other projects cause I would have loved to see him draw Spidey once ASM gets good someday.

Deodanto was whatever.
No doubt he can draw, but his action scenes often looked stiff and awkward.
When he does not draw people from reference (which he did for most of his ASM run) his work is actually much better.
However JR JR kicks his ass 4 real.

Now you know how I felt about Romita Jr. Though I've gotten into the other books that Romita has done since he's left Spidey. If you dig Deodato that much you should give those other books a shot. :o

I'll second that! We need JR jr back! But Garney is an ok substitute.

 Pleeeze...

How predictable you are. I would have worried if you had not shown up to make your usual compulsive and disparaging comments. They are so totally ridiculous MOST of the time I've pretty much lost all respect for your opinion.

Now, I've never been a huge fan of JR JR. His art at times is good and at other's it's so so.

The ironic part about your statement is that you complain that Deodato's action scenes look stiff and awkward yet you praise JR JR.

Captivated- If you make a thread ass licking some artist you love then you can expect others to take you up on his actual merit.
If you read my post you would see that I have not unduly dissed Deo in any way but rather pointed out legit holes in aspects of his work (stiffness of action scenes etc).
If these truths are ‘totally ridiculous’ to you then to be honest I could not give a damn if you respect my opinion or not dude, because frankly I know what I am talking about here as others would attest.

Hmm, not quite sure I see the irony in my statement.
JR JR the master of the Spider-man fight scene.

JR jr was meh for me. he's good, but whatever, he got MJ's hair right so i'm fine. i really liked Deodato run on spidey.

Ha! So I'm not the only one buged that MJ didn't have bangs in this last ASM.

I've never seen her (especially) and Peter looking so meh... except over in SSM where they are looking downright haggard.

And before all you defenders of the more abstract, cartoony and bizarre art styles jump in here, I'm not talking about "talent"... Garney and Medina have enough talent to draw Peter with his dark-haired good looks and MJ with her classic features, looking like the beauty she is supposed to be. Even JRJr, with his sometimes cartoony/blocky style got that right.

But Deodato drawing these long time classic characters after real life famous people was a better idea?

I didn't associate Jason Priestley with Spider-Man until Deodato came on. And Robert DeNiro had a nice cameo in Amazing Spider-Man, heh.

I liked Deodato, he had a darker, more realistic approach. Great for Sins Past, however, not so great after that. It's why they probably did those flashback scenes in Skin Deep so Mark Brooks could balance out the book, though it only pissed me off more because it would have made more sense for Deodato to just do the whole thing but they had to do what they had to do.

And Deodato is all right on New Avengers...but after Finch and McNiven on that book it's just a weird look. Howard Chaykin was a welcome change in # 21 for that Captain America plot.

I like Deodato but he just wasn't really a strong fit for Spider-Man, in my opinion. Guys like Romita Jr. and Todd McFarlene and Erik Larsen and Mark Bagley and Romita Sr. they really fit the mold for Spider-Man artists and help define how the character is drawn even to this day. More cartoony styles, yes, but isn't that what Spider-Man is all about?

Actually this thread was to inform his fans (there are MANY of them here) of his upcoming projects. That I mentioned he was one of my favorite artists on ASM, and that I missed him, was really NOT an invitation to start dissecting his MERIT as an artist. YOU are the one who is compulsive about that.

I swear, there are a handful of people here -- I guess still miff'd that JRJr was replaced -- who can't resist the urge to whine about it EVERY time someone mentions Deodato's name... "Deodato had Wheaties for breakfast..." "Whaa... Deodato sucks, I want JRJr!"

"Deodanto was whatever.... JR JR kicks his ass 4 real." Sound familar? Oh, yeah... not a diss at all... profound art criticism.

I KNOW there are many (like ragingdemon155 and myself) who looked at your other comment -- "his (Deodato) action scenes often looked stiff and awkward" -- and thought, "What the hell is he talking about?!" That you call your opinions, "TRUTHS" is totally ridiculous.

Glad you added that "in my opinion" part...

I LOVED him on Amazing Spider-Man... so I guess for some of us it WAS a "fit." I also love Dodson, Cho, Rio, Ringo (if he could just improve his proportions), Land, Frank... and Romita Sr., of course.

Well, of course, it's my opinion. Everybody's opinions may differ. I know that you're down with Deodato, I remember you being a big supporter during even Sins Past.

I think you're giving a little too much credit to the guy. His run on ASM wasn't really that long compared to the other artists who have come before him. When it comes to cover art, he's a damn fine artist and I really think he's done some amazing covers. But I couldn't see him with a very long run on the book like Mark Bagley had in the 90's or Romita Jr. had in the late 90's and early 00's.

You don't really seem to be a fan of the more "cartoony" style. Which, I don't blame people for, but this is Spider-Man. This isn't The Punisher or Iron Man or Ghost Rider, etc. This is the Amazing Spider-Man. And Deodato's style just wasn't really meshing well with the book, in my opinion. The way he drew the characters to look like famous people is something that really, REALLY bothered me.

But, as I said earlier, if you are really that big of a fan of Deodato's work you should try out those other series, and who knows...you might get into something new.

I loved Deodatos stuff on spidey, I liked JR JR, but his faces are so weird (the noses especially) that it takes me out of everything he does...

It took me a while, but I actually got past that and remember being disappointed when JRJr left... of course that lasted about 30 seconds when I saw ASM #509. LOL.

Deodato spoiled me. Since he left, others have been drawing a decent enough Spidey, but I want to relate to the characters, and FACES are important. What we've gotten there has been sub par. IMO.
