I figure it must be a regional thing. All my life they've been pancakes. In other parts of the country, folks may call them hotcakes.

I bet in other countries they probably get the word "pancake" mixed up with "poundcake" (which can accidentally lead to one very big breakfast ), thus thats probably why they call them "hotcakes".

I believe the Difference is Pancakes are made in a Pan. Hot Cakes are made on a Flat Hot Iron Surface, not a Pan. I believe it may have to do with False Advertising.
