What's the Last Book You Read/Finished?

I read the Lovely Bones. I thought the blurb was interesting and since Peter Jackson would be making a film out of it I thought I'd give it a try. The entire book is about the brutal rape and murder of a 14 year old girl (Susie) by her neighbor who lingers throughout the book but is never apprehended. Susie narrates pretty much the entire book as she watches her family and friends from heaven as they go thru the mundane rituals of their daily lives. The end.

There is no need to read the book because this is pretty much it in a nutshell. There isn't any great mystery to be solved, no plot twist, no huge climatic ending. This novel pretty much breaks all the rules of creative storytelling. I have never read such rubbish. If Peter Jackson attempts to turn this into a film and be faithful to the book his career will go down the toilet.

I read The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain de Botton on recommendation from fellow board member Alien Anal.

Never read a book on philosophy before, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Finished "The Drawing of the Three"

Started " The Waste Lands"

I started For One More Day last night by Mitch Albom. It's alright so far, but I'm only about 15 pages in so we'll see.

gi joe above and beyond by max alan collins

Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris

Most of the essays are great. Some have some pretty weird stuff in them, though.

really enjoyed it, although some parts made me cry for some reason. It's under 200 pages, but you'll still think about the message behind it even after you're done reading

I've finished a number of books lately; lots of pulp fantasy.

Alara Unbroken by Doug Beyer: 1 page chapters FTW! This was one big cluster****. Almost as bad as the elf-human-goblin-minotaur-lizardman-centaur-everfantasycreatureimagineable orgy in the field of chocolate pudding from another MTG novel, Scourge.

Dragon Forge: Fine piece of pulp fantasy; used traditional creatures like elves, dragons, dwarves, demons but blended with a bit more technology such as lightning-rails (aka monorails) and airships powered by elementals.

The Legend of Drizzt: The Halfling's Gem: So-so; started off good. Toward the end there was a lot of hack and slash through wererats that put me to sleep. Drizzt's struggle with using that mask Alustriel gave him was pretty entertaining.

Hellsing, Volume 1: Very strong 1st entry; I'll be following this series. Nice and bloody. :yay:

The Rants by Dennis Miller...awesome read from a comic madman.

I bought a paperback of Christopher Hitchens "God is Not Great" this weekend and have been reading a little every night. God may not be great, but so far, the Hitchens book is. :cwink:

Just started The Crow tonight for the first time. Damn good so far.

Just finished reading Yes Man by Danny Wallace, as much as i liked the movie, this book really could work well as a more direct adaptation. I would love to actually see some of the things he did in this book. Quick read, great story, good message, and whether or not you were a fan of the movie, i think this book is worth checking out.

Starting either Shutter Island, Public Enemies, or The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer (or something to that extent). Any suggestions?

i bought The Killing Club today from Barnes and Noble. The lady working had read it and recommended it to me. The plot sounded interesting so I hope to get into it soon

Finished:
1) The Dark Tower - The Long Road Home
2) Anita Blake Vampire Hunter - Guilty Pleasures

Reading:
Dean Koontz's Frankenstein - Prodigal Son (so far so good... )

what'd you think? i haven't started the second one yet.

Dean Koontz = One of my favorite authors
Frankenstein's the first Koontz title I've ever read and I am really enjoying it. I like his writing style a lot. I read that there are 3 book in the Frankenstein series. I can't wait to finish Prodigal Son and move on to Book two. Any title you'd like to recommend based on the fact that I am enjoying the book I am currently reading very much?

Guilty Pleasures? I enjoyed it enough to prompt me to pick another book in the series. I just returned from the library, the second book is out so I've got book 3. I might start on it tonight or tomorrow as soon as I am finished with Koontz's Prodigal son.
