Black Panther

Damn... It's by far the most inspired Marvel movie to date. Ryan Coogler took what would seem to be a standard superhero quasi-origin movie and added in much needed world building that's not in space. They do a fantastic job on showing you the legacy and history of the Black Panther and how the geopolitics affect the country of Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman nails it as Black Panther even more so when he was in Civil War. It was reserved, but there was levels to it. It probably wouldn't have worked as well if it weren't for the amazing supporting cast. Letitia Wright Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and the others did an amazing job. Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger is probably the MCU's best villain since Loki. While he's not totally sympathetic, they gave him dimensions to where he's a fully fledged character. The music is another big part of this movie. While I love the soundtrack and it's used perfectly, the score was absolutely amazing... adding vocals to your score makes a big difference. As for the action, it's not as strong as the story side of things (even the CG felt kinda spotty), but there's some great moments towards the end and the final battle. This movie is a great blend of Hamlet and James Bond. It's serious with some light hearted moments throughout. Overall, it's one of Marvel's best and it's a great reminder that the superhero genre still has potential to grow and expand.
9/10

Netflix's The Ritual. About 10x better than Cloverfield: Paradox

THE LOST BATTALION (2001)

Directed by Russell Mulcahy

Starring Ricky Schroder, Phil McKee, Jamie Harris, Wolf Kahler, and Michael Brandon.

Based on a true story during World War One. Close to the end of the war, a battalion of over 500 Americans led by Maj. Charles White Whittlesey (Schroder) are sent into the Argonne Forest. Once in, they are cut off from the rest of the allies, lied to about the situation by their commanding General (Brandon), and then have all communication cut off (there were no radios at the time, they had originally strung telegraph wires for communication but these lines were totally destroyed in the fighting). After 5 days of fierce fighting, running out of food, water, ammo, and medical supplies....reinforcements finally arrived. Maj. Whittlesey and around 200 of his men made it out alive.

This was a made for TV movie co produced by the A&E Network and THE HISTORY CHANNEL. There was no extreme cursing, but the violence and gore was like what one would see in a current theatrical film. There are many many scenes of bullet strikes, limbs blown off, and one chilling scene of a soldier taking a direct hit from an artillery shell and blown into a billion pieces. This is a very serious movie about the horrors of war.

Black Panther. Link in my sig to my write up. Short version, lives up to the hype :up:

BLACK PANTHER
Quality = 8.5/10
Joy = 9/10

Yes, it's great. In the words of a fella member; "It's Captain America, James Bond, and the Lion King put in a blender together. In a good way."

It also reminded me of other MCU movies, like Iron Man 2 (trailer, not the movie itself)

the dynamic Scooby boo afair
