'Boy A':
This is an absolute brilliant film that is utterly unpredictable and a terrific character study. There are so many moments in the film where I expected some cheesy soap-opera scenario; at one point I was expecting a character, who had an off-screen death, to "return from the dead"... thankfully that doesn't happen. The two leads, Peter Mullen and Andrew Garfield, are fantastic and Garfield steals the show as Jack.
Although this movie moves quite slow, this is the kind of movie that benefits from it thanks to it's wonderfully emotive central character. The film is one of the best character studies I've ever seen from the point-of-view of "the bad guy". Incredibly powerful.

'Leaving Las Vegas':
I hardly know what to say about this movie. Do I like it? Yes. It's quite powerful and I love how the main character (played by Nicholas Cage) sticks to his goal from the beginning to the end which thankfully doesn't make this the "feel-good" love story. It's a love story with characters who are shattered by life beyond belief.
While I did highly enjoy this movie, and various images will continue to haunt me from it, I hate how this is the kind of film that you can only watch once and never have to watch again because there's nothing more to gain from it. I got the same feeling from 'The Wrestler' as I did with this film; the only difference is that I liked 'The Wrestler' better because at least the video quality of the DVD didn't look like the hell from butt-ugly (
literally). Aside from the utter lack of replay value, this is a film worth watching, if anything, for it's pitch-perfect pair of performances from the two leads.
