I just caught up after having not watched since ep 7 (not because I didn't like it just busy) and I really don't understand what people are talking about when they say ep 13 is the best yet or is the first really good episode. It's not that much different in tone or pace from the past episodes, just the stakes were raised. The acting is good, the chemistry between the cast has been getting better and better, the humor continues to improve, and the production value is some of the best I've seen on TV. I really don't understand what people are complaining about and calling the show horrible for. Only thing I can think of is that they want it to be like Game of Thrones or something, whatever that means.

Well, the stakes not being high enough was kind of a problem early on.

You can't expect a TV show to have high stakes every episode, it's unrealistic. Not every show should have to kill off characters as a gimmick to prove a point.

You can have bigger stakes than we had in the earlier episodes without going to those kinds of extremes.

Really, what I mean by earlier episodes lacking stakes is that what the heroes stood to lose if they didn't win was never that clearly defined. There have been plenty of episodes where it wasn't really clear what the heroes were fighting for, from a personal and ideological standpoint. Obviously, they're good guys who want to stop bad guys from doing bad, but a story needs to explore the hero's personal stake in the adventure that makes them want to try to save the day to be more interesting.

It's been a good show since November. I have no real complaints.

Jim Steranko, artist of Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD, said he is losing or has lost faith in the show (praphrasing)
because he is sick of the dangling cliffhangers every episode and the slow pacing. That was the problem he saw,
but he may be changing his mind with the Deathlok episode:

There isn't a problem, people are babies. You know this by now Dent. :)

In my heart of hearts I really don't see any major changes in the show.I've enjoyed it since the beginning. But if it'll keep the whiners at bay,I'm happy to play along.

Did you see the last few episodes?'Ray!The show is getting better!:word::word:

Dent, it's quite simple... The minute people heard this show would be a part of the MCU, they expected a weekly episode of The Avengers, a big name cameo (Evans, RDJ, SLJ, etc) every week and production value of the films. That, and everyone wanted and answer of Coulson right away.

People wanted something impossible and jumped immediately saying the show was horrible because it basically isn't the Avengers on tv. Those people need to back up and take the show for what it is (which is what it was promoted as) or go back to watching Avengers Assemble.

That's not why. Most people I know who dislike this show don't care that the Avengers aren't cameoing... people need to stop using this to shut up those of us who aren't impressed with this show. I call it the Prometheus Argument:
"Here is a list of well thought out reasons on why I disliked Prometheus" "You didn't like it cos you expected Alien clone!" "Um, no, I am presenting you with a long list of reasons I didn't like it" "Yeah, you didn't like it cos you expected Alien clone" The situation is identical with AoS; no matter how many times and how many people cite boredom, unlikable characters, mediocre and bad plot, terrible writing or general blandness on not enjoying the show, people who defend it will always bring it down to "you don't like it cos you expected The Avengers!"

The cast has no chemistry with each other, most of them can barely even act.... and then there is Chloe Bennett who can't act period and is playing the worst character to hit television since Scrappy Doo.

Plus there's the writing, yes... Joss Whedon is busy. We get that. But maybe the showrunners shouldn't have been chosen out of nepotism. We have his less talented brother and sister-in-law running the show. There are lots of more talented writer-producers out there who should have gotten this gig.

We live in a golden age of television, and there is no excuse for this crap. "Breaking Bad" had a slow first season, too. But the characters and actors and even the writing were able to keep people's attention. Hell, it took Walter White two episodes to decide if he was going to murder someone he was holding captive, and that was captivating. It's a slow burn, but it's a captivating slow burn.

Only thing I can think of is that they want it to be like Game of Thrones or something, whatever that means.

I would love this, and I will explain to you what this means. We're not talking about content or tone. "Game of Thrones" has a large cast that it juggles beautifully. Hardly anybody feels short changed, and we get to know these people well, we are interested in them, even when it takes a while for the plot to draw us in. All of the actors are wonderful, as is the direction, the cinematography, the writing, etc.

Whereas, Agents of SHIELD is a procedural show with Marvel references that feels like it comes from the era of syndicated, 90's schlock like Jack of All Trades, Mutant X, etc.

They blew a hole in the side of the plane in the 2nd episode. The stakes were pretty high. Nick Fury was pissed with Coulson. I don't know, I suppose I'm not certain what constitutes high stakes in your opinion. It would be easier to discuss if we had some common metric for high stakes.

I have a friend who told me on Friday night that her and her husband stopped watching after 3 episodes. They couldn't get into. I told her that she was nuts and really needs to go back and watch them.

She wasn't expecting Thor and Iron Man, but she was expecting good TV, and in her opinion they weren't getting that.

Personally, I like the show, but figured it would take some time to develop. But I'm still happy with where they are now.

This man don't watch AOS from Christmas. otherwise they would not write such nonsense.
From episode 10 the "procedural factor" si really really decreased

Has Chloe Bennett learned how to act yet?

There's just no-way better actresses than her didn't audition for Skye. I just don't accept that she was the best actress that auditioned for the role.

Especially if her auditioning six times for the role is true. Just seems like she had someone at ABC that really wanted her to get it and that person kept pushing for her so she kept getting trotted back in front of producers and network executives and they just got tired of it and said "fine".

Probably spent all six auditions on her knees.

Lol @ Skye haters. Sub out that Haterade for some Water and open your eyes to the fact that she's straight up killing it on this show.

Brothaman... I watched from the jump. Was not happy after sticking it out for sometime. Stopped watching. Then I keep hearing that it has markedly improved. Caught up with the episodes on demand. Still not particularly impressed. Last episode Skye got shot. It was shocking only on an intellectual level. Like, "hmm, a main character killed" but then my mind kicked into analysis mode and of course SHE AINT GONNA DIE. My emotional reaction to Skye getting shot? I could give two airborne copulations. That's not good for a main character. Sorry. It's not hate just pulled out of detractors collective sphincters friend. Bennet is a Nickelodeon sitcom level actress and yes, the show can and does resemble 1990's era syndicated "action" shows as was mentioned before, just with a more impressive budget. Seriously, what ever the ratings are they probably can't justify the expense of this show. It will be back next season, sure. But I can't see it making it through the halfway point of that. I think they botched this show during the planning stages myself. And no, I don't want to see Cap or Thor each week. If you notice, none of my critiques are about that. I understand finding the show a passably decent time killer for an hour, but in my opinion that's still a couple of magnitudes difference from being an actually good show, to my eyes at least.

Look, I know that The Avengers are not showing up. I really think they could have somebody playing Daredevil or Moon Knight for sweeps though. Hey until The last episode I thought J August Richards was going to be Luke Cage not Deathlok. Chloe Bennett? She's just mediocre. probably cast when they realized HIMYM was renewed and they couldn't get Cobie Smulders to play Maria Hill every week

Chloe is the best actor on the show.(besides Gregg, natch :oldrazz:) So either we got a bad case of troll-itis here,or someone needs to have their vision checked.

Or... Ya know... You like nubile young girls and allow that to cloud any objective view of the show? :word:

What I wrote above is actually an unfair assessment on my part. As much as your post is an unfair assessment of my opinion. Despite the screen name I am and have always been a big fan of BOTH Marvel and DC (I can't help if Superman is my fave though :cwink:). So this is not trolling. I wanted to love this show. I wanted a cool kick ass spy/espionage show set in the MCU with Coulson and a team of crack agents doing kick ass cool agent stuff. I just don't feel that's how these characters have been presented or the type of stories we've gotten. You know, it is possible to be critical of stuff that you want to like, right?

I just started watching this show, and I have to say, this was my impression as well. Several minutes in I couldn't believe how annoying this Skye character was and how bad an actress this person seems to be. It's interesting reading here and elsewhere that quite a few people have come away with the same opinion.

Well of course anyone is entitled to not enjoy the show, there's plenty of things I don't like that others love. But Chloe Bennett is the least of this shows problems, if you can't get behind her character that's a shame because she's really grown into on of the bests on the show (as HT said.)

But, the show is in no danger of cancellation or recasting or any of that jazz people tend to bring up when talking about how much they dislike the show.

And Krypton, you explained it right in your own post. You wanted and expected something different from the show, when that wasn't what they did you're never going to come around to enjoying it.
