What's this decade's Starwars.

Erzengel said:
Well like I said with Potter, it's every 15-18 months. Besides, it really doesn't matter with Potter while it makes good money in the States, it's overseas that catapults it to a higher gross.

Definitely. Still, the Potter movies just...fit better in the winter.

Please. The Will Ferrel crowd? You make it sound he makes $300 million movies. His top movie was Elf making $173 million.

Seriously, how are you coming up with these statistics?

World wide gross buddy is 300 million

Erzengel said:
You do realize that most summer movies usually only spend 2 weeks at #1, 3 tops. You honestly think the movies from 2006 are the same competition as the ones for 2007?

It's not worth arguing with you, cause you obviously are on a crusade against Pirates, I don't know you could just be a hatter, and that is cool, but lets be honest for a second...

the compition that Pirates has until Die Hard is...

A sequel that is replacing its star in Evan Almighty

A superhero sequel to a movie that wasn't terribley to well recived, and whos main audience are the pre-teen to teenage group that will go see Pirates instead-FF2

and a threequel to a franchise that the last movie was terribley non-discript, and the movie itself is creating virtually no buzz-Oceans 13

Pirates will be no. 1 for a garunteed 3 weeks, if not 4 until Die Hard comes out on the 29th of June

And I don't know how well Rocky Balboa is going to do, we will have to wait and see, but if ressurected 80s action franchises with aging stars isn't the sell the producers think it might be, Pirates could however unlikely spend a 5th week a top the box office (However I don't believe this will happen, I was as skeptical of Die Hard as anyone untill I saw this last trailer)

My friend, I would find all the wishing wells, and shooting stars you possibley can, because Pirates will simpley not bust, I know you want it to, but it just won't, in a jam packed summer that some big name franchises (Sherk 2) will take a nosedive. Pirates is the one garuntee

Talking domestic and you know it, secondly c'mon you make it sound like it had a chance against Pirates.

And you obviously have a giant woody for Pirates. And for the LAST time I don't dislike Pirates but saying the competition for 2007 is the same as 2006? After all the mediocre performances of this year and the midcard competition?

5 weeks? C'mon now, there's a difference between being a fan of the movie and being an outright naive.

Yeah that movie about that Superhero who is like a spider or something? Yeah I'm sure THAT isn't a guarantee. :whatever:

And let's see if you can read this one more time. I"m not saying Pirates will bust. And if you actually READ some of my other posts, I'm just saying the competition is much stiffer next year and I think that all movies will suffer because of it. And quite possibly the movie may not do as well because of it.

No we aren't, what is the one number I always bring up in Pirates disscussion? 1 Billion, did Pirtes gross 1 bill domestically? no? it grossed about 425 i think

I know the competition is much stiffer, but what I AM TRYING TO GET PAST YOUR TINY ****ING HEAD, is the stiffer competition comes out before Pirates

what comes out before a movie like Pirates is released is void, because once Pirates comes out, it will instantly defuse the competition that preceeded it. The only thing that matters is what comes out after, and what I have been trying to tell you forever is until Die Hard comes out, there is not a legitimate movie that can realistically take the number one spot from Spiderman, because they are all sequels of franchises no one is interested in

Spiderman will do it big for the first two weeks it is out, but once Sherk comes out, that may be the end of the run for the movie, cause again once Pirates comes out, it will take away all of the business that Spiderman is relying on.

and learng to identify parenthises I don't think Pirates will go 5 weeks at no. 1, first of all Die Hard comes out 4 weeks after Pirates, and secondly, I was just saying there is an outside chance that GA is all together not interested in a franchise that hasn't had a flick in 12 years. Not saying I'm not looking forward to Die Hard, but I don't think that is the garuntee they (the studios) are thinking it is

By the comments of others: Eragon :woot:

(If it ever makes a trilogy... Hope not.)

I was going to respond to your whole post but after reading this, I'm not even going to bother anymore.

Okay, Pirates is what 100 years of Hollywood has been building up to. Pirates is going to sweep the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys and Grammys.
Pirates is going to unite the nations of the world and bring an end to famine and homelessness. :whatever:

Let me get my puffy shirt on.

Arrrr!! Maties!!!

We all know that isn't going to happen, and it is quite obvious you just can't respond to that post because it was correct

Look at what happened this summer

the supposibly sure thing Superman Returns got cock slapped by Pirates

Once a big release comes out, the one before it seems to get pushed under the rug, that is how hollywood goes, and what I am trying to tell you, is there is not a big release equivilent of Pirates/Spiderman 3/Sherk, until Die Hard comes out 4 weeks latter, but after Spiderman3, there are two movies of its caliber coming out after 2 weeks. It isn't rocket science

Spiderman three will make about 300-350 domestically, Sherk will make at the most 300, and Pirates will make 350+ to 400, because it has the legs, so do the other two, but it's legs will be able to run because there is nothing stopping it, like the other two have

Yeah look at what happend this summer.

MI3, Cars, DaVinci Code, Superman, X-3, all doing a modest $200 million but essentially "failing" in the traditional blockbuster sense.

The whole summer movie season was essentially lukewarm til Pirates.

Next year, the summer movie season should start off with a bang with Spiderman.

See the difference between you and me is I can entertain the thought that yeah, I may be wrong about something. Sure Pirates could be the #1 movie next year. You on the other hand can't wrap your head around that quite possibly Pirates doesn't do as well as this year. Not that it would bust just that it won't make as much as this year.

Honestly, I think it's Spiderman domestically with Harry Potter taking worldwide again. But I won't get my panties in a bunch if I'm wrong and at least I'm not narrow minded to realize that.

Why don't you take a step back and see the forest instead of the single tree there?

Look a couple pages back, I said Potter possibley will be the worldwide gross leader this year. I have no problem with Pirates not being it, you though, give it absolutley no credit at all. A movie coming off a 1 billion dollar gross, and you don't think it will ether lead the domestic, or worldwide? Spiderman is a great franchise, to be rivaled with Pirates, and Harry Potter, as the best three around, but timing of release is everything.

Like I said, it Spiderman3, will gross domestically between 300-350 million, and I would bet 250 of that will be grossed in the first two weeks before Sherk 3 comes out.

Like I said, Pirates S3, and Shrek all have legs to get to possibley 400 million, I don't know if ether will, but Pirates is the most likely option because its legs are given the most room to run. Yes, I like Pirates better than all three, but besides that it does indeed have the most open space to take the money and run, like my man steve miller once said.

I am a big Spiderman fan to, right now, just cause we probably know way to damn much of that movie, the hype isn't there like the fresh off the DMC dvd, and the fact that everything is up in the air for AWE. Yes, the Hype is fresh for Pirates in me, but I still, in my top 50 or whatever movies ever, POTC1 is like 7, and Spiderman 1 is lik 12, so I whatever I think about POTC, I think closely that opinion to Spiderman

Oh and SR failed for one reason, and one reason only, Pirates. The same will happen with Shrek

I don't give Pirates any credit because honestly I don't think it's that great of a movie. I'd give it 2 out of 4 stars. Fun movie, good movie to escape to on a Summer Night? Yes. Epic movie? No. The Star Wars of this Decade? Definitely Not. It's an opinion. My opinion.

And this is where you come in on the 1 billion worldwide. Honestly so what? By that rational Titanic should be EVERYONE'S favorite. But it's not is it? Quantity doesn't equal Quality.

Yes I don't Pirates too much credit but you give it too much credit?
Lukewarm reviews? Most those critics don't get it, maybe someday they will.
The opinions online? Doesn't matter because your friends say otherwise.
It's not a quality movie? Well it made over 1 billion dollars.

See I could move to a happy medium. I can say yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Pirates was #1 at the summer 2007 box office that it's a fun movie. But you think of it as such an epic, cultural change to our society.

ROFL.

Seriously. Too much credit.

Maybe SR failed because it let a lot of people down.

I agree, Star Wars was a ground breaking movie. Pirates, although a good moive and made lots of money, it was not ground breaking. Will peple still fuss over it 30 years from now? Who knows but Star Wars will probably still be talked about.

The reason I combat you, is becuase you are simpley not giving enough credit to the movie, even by saying it is fun, you say it with a double edged sword, you kind of mean it, but at the same time you degrade it by saying that. In scope Pirates is epic, you can say whatever you want about it being a fun movie, but it isn't hard to read between the lines with what you really mean.

I will however, like I have been saying, will wait till May to give my final assesment as to what the biggest franchise of this decade is, because both Pirates, and Spiderman come out. But all I am saying, is as far as fandom goes, Pirates has created a buzz unlike Spiderman, and LOTR, again not saying they aren't great movies, just they haven't generated the same kind of buzz Pirates has, it also has the box office receipts to prove it, obviously you don't care about those, which is bull, because it plays in huge in this discussion.

Critcal reviews where lukewarm, sure that is fine, but fan review sites all have very nice reviews, like the 7.5 on IMDB as an example, and in the end which is more important? You can sure formulate your own opinion, but I would say movie goers are what counts in deciding what a great movie actually is.

Like I said the box office doesn't lie, you just have to know how to read it. People though POTC was good enough for mass quantities of repeat business, whereas they didn't think that about SR, X3, MI3. That is why I always bring the BO up, because if a movie makes that much money, that is obviously repeat business, and millions of people thought it was good enough to drop a total or like 40+ bucks on it to see it 2 or 3 times

It's funny that you bring up IMDB.

Do you know they have a top 250 list?
#4 is Return of the King with 8.8
#14 is Fellowship with 8.7
#20 is Towers with 8.6

Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl is #224 with a 7.9.

Dead's Man Chest, not even listed.
Titanic not even listed.

L0ngsh0t why the hell cant you just move the **** on to something else ? Why cant you just accept the fact that everyone has a differnet opinion ? & just because POTC made the money it did does not mean everyone on earth likes it. Why dont you get your god damn head out of your god damn ass & do us all a favor & grow up & move on. Your acting like a damn kid being all whiney because someone on a message board does not agree with you about POTC. Just move on already please take a cue & learn a thing or two from Matt.
