Sadly despite all my talk about how TV is going through a golden age, I haven't had much time to sit down and watch most of the popular Netflix shows. Still haven't seen House of Cards, Orange in the New Black, Game of Thrones or Bates Motel.
My top favorite shows as of now (includes live-action, American animated, and even anime):
1. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Not just my favorite anime, but one of favorite fictional stories of all time. I often joke about how it's the greatest thing mankind ever created. I don't want to give anything away, as it's relatively short (27 episodes) but it's just that good. A must-see if you love anime.
2. South Park - Arguably the most brilliant satire show there is. Matt Stone and Trey Parker do a brilliant job at both staying relevant and being equal-opportunity offenders. These guys can satirize anyone and anything.
3. Breaking Bad - The most tightly-written and layered TV drama I've ever seen. It's one of those shows that's so good it can't be explained until you actually see it. Walter White has to be one of the most complex characters in all of TV fiction.
4. Sherlock - Great modernization of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. Benedict Cumberbatch is also the best Holmes since Jeremy Brett's.
5. Daredevil - Not just an excellent representation of the character, but also the first high-quality superhero series that deserves to be listed with TV's bests.
I know they're listed numerically, but they're almost not meant to be in any particular order. The first 3 are practically tied with one another, while Daredevil is almost a close second to Sherlock.
