When did it become alright to be a chick?

Seriously? Our country have an entire counter-culture of women wearing dresses in cities. This counter-culture has a mentality that it is a bad thing to leave the rearing of your children by strangers and the stupid. Women from the north are leaving their corporate jobs to stay at home, raising their kids and doing house works.

I know women. I know some actually wear the pants in the family so what I am asking is this, how did this subculture become so prevalent?
