I recently got back into watching Smallville after stopping midway through Season 6 (I stopped watching after "Justice"). After catching a stray episode from Season 8 involving Doomsday being separated from its human host, I decided that it was worth a gander to see what I had been missing since that episode.

I bought Season 6 and 7 on DVD ($18.99 a piece at Best Buy) and am now eagerly awaiting Season 8. It is already available on iTunes for $39.99...but considering the non-sale price of Smallville seasons is around $44.99, I would much rather spend the $5 more and actually own DVD's that aren't DRM locked to a single media player. Here is hoping that the wait is not that long. Not that I would be tempted to go the iTunes route for it...but I just really want to see what happens with the introduction of Black Canary and Doomsday.

Since you say you're from California Amazon(US) says it'll be available 25 August this year (DVD & Blu-Ray). They list it for $38.99. I just want to know when we'll get it in Australia. Probably March. 'Cos we can't have it the same year as the British and Americans. It's to make sure piracy continues. Either that or buying from another region. I guess at least it shows up even if late. By the way there's a DVD thread below that has pictures and lists some of the extras.

Actually, Black Canary first appears in season 7 (the episode called Siren). As for the DVDs, amazon has them coming out August 25th for $38.99.

It's a shame you left after Justice, because the episode after that is, imo, the best one of season 6, and one of my all time favourites. Still not a bad way to start watching again! :D

Thank you both for all of the information. Honestly, it was some time during Season 4 that my watching was spotty. I still tried to catch Smallville, but I usually made it up back when The WB ran repeat episodes of prime time shows on Sunday nights. I began watching again with regularity during Season 6 because this board had all of the info about Season 6 including the Green Arrow.

I feel that at times (even still) Smallville stagnates itself rather than going where it ultimately should. I mean it amazes me that the WB kept this show for so long. They didn't even keep Buffy...which only got a reprieve because UPN picked it up. So it is great to see a show from my teen years, survive all the way into my adulthood (Smallville began airing when I was 17 years old turning 18). On the other hand, I felt like the producers kept jerking the audience around

-Oh here is Lois Lane, but instead of the "she barely knows Clark exists" attitude, lets give her a "Clark = Barf" attitude.

-Clark continually gains the ability to fly, only to lose it again.

-Introduce Supergirl twice.

-Move to Metropolis, finish college and give him exposure to the Daily Planet...but he won't be Superman...

I know that the producers live and die by "No Tights No Flights" when it comes to The Man of Steel, but some how Green Arrow, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman and Black Canary get costumes. Some how we get to watch Zod, Kara and Martian Manhunter zip all over the skies. I honestly don't get it. They even introduced Jimmy and gave Lois a job at the planet. I just want them to make him Superman already. And dragging that out when they already did everything else progessive, just made the show become predictable. But like I said, Season 8 really caught me off guard by introducing Doomsday. I can at least be glad that they continue to introduce legacy characters to the series.

At this point the series has strayed so far away from the original Smallville formula, that they should have spun it off into something called "Metropolis" just so we could finally let go of the Kent Farm, finally let go of Lionel Luther and finally get Clark to accept his destiny. Everything is in place except for their reluctance to give Clark his powers and their refusal to not Kryptonite crutch every other episode. Time to make that rock rare like it is/was supposed to be.

It is Metropolis in all but name (as you and others point out). Except without Superman. I'll admit I haven't watched Season 8 but that's because I wait for the DVDs to show up because it doesn't air on Free-to-air TV here (non-HD or even HD which I don't have). So it'll be next year for me probably as I said above. I guess he's Peter Pan (never grow up except at the end maybe).
