The ONLY reason rockets and capsules are designed the way they are is purely because its cost prohibitive to get a whole like of material in space..as it stands it costs a minimum of 10,000 dollars just to get a pound of anything to space.
You may think "what about the ISS" its big and uses alot of material..sure but that took over a decade to built and the designs of the structures are basically interlocking pods, tubes and blocks. Very basic and minimalist design.
But a company in Canada just put in for a patent on a type of space elevator that IF they can get it to work should make launching material much cheaper. To the tune of 100s of dollars or less.
that being said..WHICH FICTIONAL SPACE SHIP SHOULD BE BUILT FIRST:
MILLENNIUM FALCON
USS ENTERPRISE
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
SERENITY - FIREFLY
STAR DESTROYER - STAR WARS
EAGLE ONE - SPACE 1999
USS DEFIANT - STAR TREK
Rodger Young – Starship Troopers
