Boys,
I'm disappointed about the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" promotional campaign. Only two month at the Usa release date, and only 5 character poster, an official poster and 1 trailer. Where are the official pics? Tv spot? Trailer (I know with SM3, but it's too late:huh: ).

Sorry, but i'm disappointed. Fox, Wake Up!

Dozens of tv spots aired last month during high profile shows like 24, Heroes, Lost and American Idol.

And a final trailer released with Spiderman 3 is not "too late." :whatever:
FF2 will be a month and a half away at that point. This is no different from the approach they took last time (final trailer with Revenge of the Sith) and that turned out just fine.

And personally, I don't want to be sick of the ads by June 15th.
And I don't want to see all the good scenes cobbled together in those ads, leaving the movie with nothing to surprise us with.

I've never been happy with what Fox has done creatively with its comics properties, but they do seem to know what they're doing in the promotion department.

I don't know much about marketing, but one thing I do know is that I HATE the way most movies seem to start promotion 9 months or more before the film comes out.

I see the trailer, I want to see it, then I see that I have to wait another year:cmad:

There are many, many movies that looked great when I saw the first trailer, but by the time it came out, I just wasn't interested anymore.

FYI, there are boys and girls present on these boards.
More "girls" than you might think.

hello guys and girls,

I think the marketing has been good so far but i am wondering if fox will set up a myspace page for f4:rotss.

300 had 2 months in advance and transformers already has it now.

Since fox owns myspace i think they will do one just like x-men 3. The $1 million question is when?

because if x3, devil wears prada and 300 were any indication then myspace websites help movies a lot and boost their awareness. Someone told me that the awareness before a movie releases is 99% if a movie has myspace site.

Nonethless i am looking forward to f4:rotss on june 15th the date of my brithday. It is gonna be so cool. :yay:

Hmm. For some reason this thread is making me antsy...

I've seen no problem with the promotion so far. I do not want alot out right now to be lost in the river of Spiderman 3....I think the TV spots did exactly what they should do. I'm sure they will return with new TV spots once these shows start up regular schedule again after March Madness is over.

Their are billboards in major cities, Posters up in many theatres, and a trailer that is still apparently VERY POPULAR in that it continues to be on the top 10 lists of many search engines on the net....

Also, we have seen quite a bit on Access Hollywood, Extra, etc.....I'm sure once Spidey is semi out of the way.......we will see more on these shows as well as ET....

I'm extremely happy that I actually know so little about the movie itself, other than a good glimpse at the main characters.......this will actually be like a regular movie to me when I sit in the seat June 15th. Compared to the last time when every time I thought a scene was coming up, I was disappointed when it wasn't there.....when I saw something that I loved on the TV spots or trailer, was no where to be found in the movie......that was disappointing as well......

BTW, I am a GIRL!!!!! lol

I completely agree with this - not that I wouldn't want to see a glimpse of Doom.

Agreed. This has been a refreshing approach thusfar. Let's hope the movie isn't ruined 1 month out with all the clips being released.

I agree, in some cases less is more. The trailer for 300 did not give too much away and just showed enough glimpses of the action scenes to pique my curiousity. BTW, for the question about myspace, Tim Story has one but updates it infrequently. I would like to see the official website get a little more going on at some point.

But I would like just a eensie weensie peak at Doom's new armor.

MY thoughts EXACTLY!!! WHERE'S THE DAMN TRAILER?!?!?!?!?!:cmad::cmad:

If we get 15 TV spots like last time.......I will stop watching and reading at that point.........until the movie comes.....I'm enjoying this way too much to screw it up with that...

Why do ya'll keep asking the question that you already know the answer to.....it has been answered on this forum numerous times.....

Its with Spiderman 3.........chill out!

Ask yourself this.....

WHY put together an "ok" or even "good" trailer with "Ghost Rider" or "300" which had audiences that were not, and will never be.....the size of the audience for "Spiderman 3" AND with "Spiderman 3" you have the EXACT demographic you want to hit with 3x the audience, AN AUDIENCE THAT WILL GO BACK several times to see the movie.....a movie that gave you much more time to not just put out a "good" trailer, but a "fantastic" trailer....

PLUS.......on top of all of this......people will be getting to the theatre early, knowing that if they want a good seat they cannot wait and walk in AFTER the trailer...."Ghost Rider" had maybe one good weekend with people getting there early......"300" a solid 2 weekends.....JUST HOW MANY DO YOU THINK SPIDEY IS GOING TO HAVE of full theatres, with people getting there early and ACTUALLY seeing the trailer.....?????

So you want Fox to give up that kind of promotion just so you can have your "damn trailer" when YOU want it............I don't think so......and I'm glad.....:cwink:

I think they have done very well. We saw wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy tooooooooooooooooooooooo much last time. There were no suprises by the time the movie was released. The 1st commercial was well placed, the trailer will be comming out with SM 3. The extended version of the 1st movie will be comming out 10 days before release. Then seem to figure, less is more this time around. They are picking and choosing very well, rather then just blitzing, and flodding the market like they did last time. Thumbs way up to Fox marketing. :woot:

I agree.

i can't imagine how any of you aren't worried about the promotion. i mean, we're only a couple months away and a forum dedicated specifically to this movie only has about 5 people browsing at any given time. that's pretty discouraging -- it's probably not even in the general public's consciousness if even we don't have much to say about it.

The promotion has been going well. Can't wait to see the trailer and the Bonus Feature on the Fantastic Four two disc dvd.

Because we don't live and die by this forum.....thats how.....:o

We don't need to see everything before the movie like many fanboys.....not saying thats wrong for them....just saying we don't want to see it.....we are happy with what we've seen, and looking forward to what we haven't.

I haven't seen one trailer, picture, or TV spot for Spiderman 3....YET.....I'm looking forward to seeing it......

The fact that the trailer is on the top 10 list on many of the larger search engines even though it has been out since December says alot.....what will people remember most....what they see this week, or what they see in the weeks after Spiderman 3 up until the movie...??????

I beg to differ. By this time in 05, we knew everything. Even the ending. Once that trailer hits with Spider-Man 3, and the release of the extended version of the 1st film, this place will be jumping. And I'm sure we will get more between now and Spider-Man 3. Now if we get to the middle to end of April before the marketing mechine gets humming, then I would agree. But know there is not a worry on my part. I would say within the next 2 weeks things should start moving. If not, then Fox needs an enema. :yay:

Nah. There's usually 20-30 browsers during the evenings.
Right now (6:30 Eastern) the FF2 board has a mere 14 browsers.
BUT:
Compare that to TMNT, which just came out, with only 7 browsers!
Or 300, the surprise break-out hit of the season, with only 6 browsers!
Then there's Ghost Rider, which has done quite well to date: Only 9 browsers.

These boards are hardly representative of the movie-going public's interest in anydamnthing.
And personally I find it not surprising at all that there are currently 125 browsers on the Spiderman 3 board.
Or 40 browsers on the Dark Knight board.
These properties clearly have a much more rabid fan base on the internet (and in the comics market) than FF. We all know this.

So let's put this in perspective: Right now, FF2 (which is almost 3 months away and has had only limited promotion) has as many browsers as 300 and TMNT combined. Two films that are bonafide hits.

Jeez.
Calm down, worry warts.

Also:
I'm very happy with Fox holding the final FF2 trailer back until Spiderman 3.

I think Spiderman 3 is likely to have the biggest opening weekend in history. It's going to be a monster.

Here's hoping the FF2 trailer makes it onto Pirates 3 as well.

They should have an eye popping, jaw dropping trailer by then. I agree if they get the trailer with Spider-Man 3, and POTC 3, that will be plenty of eye seeing. :wow:

A teaser trailer with an actual compilation of scenes would be nice...It doesn't even need to have dialogue. I want to at least see some of the characters do their thing instead of just...Surfer owning Johnny.
