Where should I keep my 360?

I've had it on my entertainment center at the side of the TV for a couple months now. The 360 is standing up.
The TV is in a boxed area, where it's supposed to be, so there's about an inch and a half of space on either side of the 360.

Is that safe?

I would think the more wide-open the area, the better. 360s have major heat problems.
