Personally, i'm gonna have to go with the film's ending, it REALLY locked into place perfectly, and i love the way
doc manhattan goes to a new galaxy and create life
:wow:

Happens in the comic too.

I like both endings in their own respected medium.

Comic. Not entirerly because of the squid. Ozymandias was superior in comic.

Can someone tell me the squid everyones talking about. I never read the book. And Ozy was superior in the movie too. How was he differnt in the book??

:whatever:

In the GN, Adrian gathers a team of artists and geneticists to create a giant squid-like monster. He deceives them by saying that it's an elaborate special effect for a motion picture. The artists designed the creature, and the geneticists cloned the brain of a human psychic. After the completion of the creature, the artists and geneticists are killed so they don't expose the truth.

Then, using transportational technology modelled after Doctor Manhattan, Adrian has the squid teleported to New York. Upon arrival, the squid dies, and its brain sends out a psychic wave killing millions of people.

The idea was that it was an alien transported from another galaxy, forcing Earth's country to unite together against this single enemy.

Also which avoids major damage to buildings and infrastructure... making clean up and rebuilding a lot easier.

Book, the movie does not really make sense at all to me. Why would doc manhattan killing all those people bring the world together? The Soviets were probably worried that doc manhattan was gonna be used against them so i seriously doubt him killing a bunch of people would make them go "aww you know the americans arent that bad". The squid gave them an external threat for them to join together.

The movie's ending is MUCH better than the comics, at least to me. I've never really liked the stupid ending of the comics.

The movie's ending was fine. I wouldn't say that makes the comic's ending worse, but I don't think the comic ending would have worked on screen. People would have shouted "WTF!?" at the screen, whereas the ending they used felt like it was a lot more coherent with the rest of the film. That late in the game, it's a lot easier to accept a bunch of bombs reverse-engineered from Dr. Manhattan than it is to accept the existence of a giant genetically engineered squid.

I agree. You'd think that the world would turn against America in this situation since Dr. Manhattan is American. I liked the book ending better, but the movie ending was alright. There should be a poll.

If the squid was the one that killed the people by psychic blast and no nuclear energy blast to destroy buildings....

Then how can Ozy frame Dr. M in the comic book??

Did he have a different plan?

In the book, he didn't frame Dr. Manhattan for the New York incident.

His plan was to trick the world into believing they had been invaded by an alien lifeform, forcing the countries to unite against the unknown, common enemy.

Adrian did frame Dr. Manhattan with the cancer patients, but he only did that to get him to leave Earth.

He wasn't framed in the book.

Thanks

I'm starting to like the book ending now then.

Did Dr. Manhattan try to stop Ozy just like in the movie?? Or did he just leave?

Well, I prefer the comic book ending to be honest. I'm accepting of the new ending but I'm not going to pretend I wasn't disappointed by the lack of the squid and his aftermath. I don't think the new one works as well from the "practical joke" standpoint personally and I think the idea of the world uniting over an alien threath is more feasible but, what does it matter. It did sour the ending for me though I'll be honest, and I knew of the changed ending.

Eh, I meant that the comic-Ozy is superior than the movie-Ozy.

I just love the last two chapters of the book, and the movie didn't do justice to them, imo.

the world didn't come after america b/c dr. manhattan destroyed manhattan. ozy didn't blow up any other world city. i think they thought that if he would destroy the greatest american city (his home), what's to stop him from coming after everyone else. they already see him as a god. they unite so he won't attack again, even though he never did. plus nixon's speech at end kinda showed the world that dr. manhattan has his own agenda that wasn't part of america's. instead of uniting the world by faking an alien invasion ozy unites everyone by turning everyone against dr. manhattan. he fled to mars and he was perched up there like a god watching the world. he could have destroyed the planet at any time.

think about it. if he was dr. london and destroyed london, would we all really go after england?

Yes he did, there were screens showing each city Veidt destroyed including Moscow, New York was last.

Uh, Manhattan wasn't the only city attacked in the movie. There were monitors showing several major cities around the world being destroyed, Moscow included.

I love the book, but I have to say I always thought the idea of the squid was over the top. I can't say I like Veidt destroying half the worlds cities either.

meh. i didn't notice that. he still attacked america. why come after america if it was attacked as well? do people really think like ozy? that america would attack itself to fool the entire world? i really doubt it. it was a good movie and the ending was good. i hated the squid. they made it very "marvel-realistic"(science explains everything) throughout the whole comic and put a squid with a psychic's brain in there at the end? i'm glad it wasn't in the movie.

I like both, but for the ease of storytelling the film had the better and more comprehensive ending. But comparing the two is moot.

However, I will point out to those who missed the squid, id you get a lot of "WTF?" and hands going up in confusion or laughter when the lynx came on? I did. The squid would have been that multiplied by about 10 or 20.
