Considering how Guardians of the Galaxy had an 80s, 70s type soundtrack to it, should the sequel have the same type of soundtrack but with different 70s and 80s songs? If you do then which songs would you have showcased in the sequel?

- Hooked on a Feeling- Blue Suede
- Lou Rawls- You'll Never Find
- Guns n Roses- You Could Be Mine
- Jackson 5- Dancing Machine
- David Bowie- Life on Mars

Stayin Alive - The BeeGees
Rock Lobster - B-52s
Don't Stop Till You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
Hole in the Sky - Black Sabbath
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

One Nation Under A Groove - Funkadelic
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
Edge of Seventten - Stevie Nicks
Achilles Last Stans - Led Zeppelin
My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Momma - Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
Gonna Fly Now- Bill Conti

All of these were released before 1983 which makes them viable for the Awesome Mix 2.

Life of Illusion - Joe Walsh
Rock Me Gently - Andy Kim
What A Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
Islands In The Stream - Dolly Parton
Livin' Thing - ELO
No Matter What - Badfinger
The Night Chicago Died - Paper Lace
More Than A Feeling - Boston
Ballroom Blitz - Sweet
Love Train - The O'Jays

You can go up to 1988

If that's the case..

Push it to the Limit - Paul Engemann
Angel - Madonna
Let's Go Crazy - Prince
Bad - Michael Jackson
My Adidas - Run DMC
Bring the Noise - Public Enemy
Anthem - Agnostic Front

Awesome Mix Vol 1 had songs released from the late 1960s up until 1979. Being that Vol 2 was a gift to Peter from his mother in 1988 while she was on her deathbed I'd say it's a good chance there was some newer tracks on it. Say from 1980 until here death in 1988?

Here's my suggestions:

I was just thinking about what could be possible contenders for Awesome Mix Vol. 2 ...

In my mind, these three tracks are a MUST:

1. "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall and Oates (or anything by Hall and Oates, honestly ... Because it's freaking Hall and Oates)

2. "Rapture" by Blondie

3. "When Doves Cry" OR "Kiss" by Prince

Bad - Michael Jackson
I Want to Break Free - Queen
Take on Me - a-ha
Wanna be Startin' Somethin' - Michael Jackson (The Mama Se Mama Sa Mama Coo Sa would work just as fine as the Ooga Chaka)
You should be dancing - Bee Gees
Superstition - Stevie Wonder

The Joker - Steve Miller "Some People call me the Space Cowboy"
Imagine - John Lennon
Highway to Hell - ACDC
Play that Funky Music - White Cherry
Stayin Alive - BeeGees
Tainted Love -
Papa was a Rolling Stone or Son of a Preacher man
Danger Zone or for some real fun the Top Gun Anthem
Footloose

I have a strong feeling Footloose will be the first song we hear in the movie! It will probably be playing while theres a montage of the Guardians doing a small mission.

There should be at least one ELO song on the soundtrack.

It should be either "Twilight" or "Mr. Blue Sky" (but not the re-recorded version!). Maybe "Mission (A New World Record)."

Also, the Genesis song "Illegal Alien"... for obvious reasons. It's upbeat and totally fits!

"It's no fun being an illegal alien!"

It'd be neat if something from either Rush and/or Cheap Trick could be in.

I think a song from the Footloose soundtrack should definitely be a part of Vol. 2 as a callback to the first film. But I think the song should be this one:

It would work perfect during a montage similar to how "Cherry Bomb" was used in GOTG.

some late 70s/early 80s funk, punk, new wave would be cool. Those sounds w/ GOTG goes together so well.

Imagine a P-Funk song like Flashlight or One Nation Under A Groove or G Clinton's Atomic Dog playing.

Now are these songs Quill's mom would have liked or are people just saying they want all these random songs in there?

I picked mostly songs I think she would've liked. Though knowing it was for Peter, I assumed she would've put on there at least 1 or two songs he would've liked. In GOTG he references both of those films. I think Top Gun only during the outtakes but still.

Hadn't thought of Sitting by the Dock of the Bay until just now but that would fit both criteria as well, maybe also a You've lost that lovin feeling scene too. Or even Holding out for a Hero from Footloose.

They discussed this topic today on Collider Movie Talk, so I thought I'd post their ideas:

You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive
Any Duran Duran song
Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
Jump - Van Halen
Working for the Weekend - Loverboy
Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Faithfully - Journey
Only the Young - Journey
Back in Time - Huey Lewis and the News
Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
Rock the Bells - LL Cool J

I don't think they're having three Journey songs. I'd like to avoid Don't Stop Believing (just because of Family Guy's parody), but I can't deny it would make an awesome trailer song. I also agree that Danger Zone is almost an absolute must.

ETA: If Starlord and Gamora have any romantic moments, I'm seconding Can't Fight This Feeling.
