Let's say that Warner Bros. decided to elect a woman to direct the Wonder Woman movie. Who would you like them to choose?

1. This thread is reverse sexism!!!:woot:

2. There's already a thread for possible directors somewhere in here.

Hmmm thats a pretty hard question to answer. I dont really know to many female directors and from the ones you listed i only know of a few of them.

Out of the directors listed, I've only seen two movies I liked (Mary Harron's American Psycho and The Notorious Betty Page), not sure if she could do such a big event picture like this, though. Then again, I would have said the same about Nolan, so who knows?

Hmm Id say Bigelow. I think of all of them she's the one who could balance story and action. I have to say though some of those options got me thinking. Can you imagine a Coppola, Harron or Taymor Wonder Woman movie? I doubt the general public would accept them but I think they could all make some really interesting movies.

Bigelows Mission Zero for Pirelli starring Uma.:woot:

I don't know too many women directors that have even actually been involved in some way with the superhero genre (are there only Lexi Alexander, Catherine Hardwicke and Roxann Dawson?). Most of the other options really are "out there". Other than those three, Niki Caro might be a fit too.

Coppola would be interesting, but she would probably never do it.

Updated poll! New names! YES!!!

As long as it is not Lexi Alexander

I don't know if Lexi is a good fit for Wonder Woman but with PWZ she:

-stayed true to the source material
-assembled a cast of veteran character actors that actually looked like the people that they were playing
-didn't blow tons of money on useless CGI
-filmed everything faster than the alloted time frame she was given which is a big plus considering how screwed up PWZ's production was before she took over

Even if PWZ dies a horrible death at the box office she deserves a shot at another adaptation where she has more control over for the reasons described. How many directors are getting adaptation gigs without being able to do one of those items? :yay:

P.S. Somehow my vote for "other" got nuked when the names were added and probably added to that Aeon Flux director. I did not vote for her. With the added names I'd go with Niki Caro.

The problem with Wonder Woman is that, yes, it has to be a high fantasy action epic. But at the same time, most of the best Wonder Woman stories have been heavily laden with politics and social themes. So at the same time, it should be something of a political epic, but without having entire scenes of people just gabbing. I'm not imagining The West Wing here.

Now, I never saw this movie, but my point is that the slow, talky parts of Wonder Woman, which I think should be there, should still have the same "oomph" (for lack of a better term) that this trailer evokes. What Wonder Woman needs is a director who can do that as well as a Lord of the Rings scale epic.

I think Kimberly Pierce would be an interesting choice.

I think you should go for a more indie director, somewhat of a Nolan, only a female. Granted, there has to be spectacle since it is WW, but it needs that depth as well. I honestly don't think a dude director could capture it.

Ridley Scott probably could. I really do think Kimberly Peirce would make an interesting WW film tho. Kathryn Bigelow would be good too.

Are there any contenders on the indy scene at the moment?

Agreed.

I honestly don't think a dude director could capture it.

I think it is possible. The only problem is finding one who gets the WW concept and wants to use their skills to the absolute limit.

Peter Jackson is someone I'd think could do it. While I don't know their names the directors from the Buffy, Angel and Battlestar Galactica tv shows might be a good step in the right direction. Most of them probably don't have film experience, though.

Most of them don't seem like a good match for the material. I chose Kathryn Bigelow since she seemed to have the most experience in the genre.

Yeah, there are some male directors in the biz that could, but you saw how bent out of shape the fanboy community got when Lexi was announced for Punisher. "What is a broad doing directing something as badass as Frank Castle? They're supposed to just be our eye candy damsel in these flicks, not behind teh scenes!" You know how we get.

Let James Cameron direct Wonder Woman..he did a good job with Ripley's Aliens and Sarah Connor in The Terminator........:wow:
