Please don't mention any big names like Cameron/Spielberg/Zemekis. It's more then likely that any non-Bay TF sequels will be helmed by a mid-ranged music video/commercial director with a feature or two under their belts.

My nominations would be Alex Proyas or Francis Lawrence.

I was suprised that I really liked I,Robot. I was expecting complete s.h.i.t. but I really enjoyed it. Plus it had tons of mecha action and had a bit more food for thought than I was expecting, something that a transformers sequel could use. Pyoras also has style to spare that would mesh nicely with the first film.

I thought Constantine was well directed if not solidly scripted. I Am Legend doesn't look too bad in that Will Smith-kinda-way but I think Lawrence would be a good fit.

It also doesn't hurt that both directors had worked with Shia LaBeouf either. That doesn't mean I want McG doing it though....

Thoughts, other nominations?

I completely agree with you, CreepyThinMan. Alex Proyas would be an awesome candidate... probably also my top choice (outside of the top-tier you mentioned :cwink: ).

I too was VERY impressed with I,Robot. Not only with the directing and story but also Smith's performance. His understated, almost Harrison Ford-like (Bladerunner) performance in this movie is very underrated IMHO.

It's unfortunate that the Asimov I'Robot comparison eclipsed the movie. The title is really an homage or reference-to (like some movies steal references to Shakespeare) rather than a direct adaptation.

I'm glad that you "get" I,Robot the way I do. Everyone *****ed and complained about Asimov getting ass raped by Smith's get-jiggy-with-it persona and I admit that I was one of those people. Also, Akiva Goldsman's involvement did little to excite me, nor did the trailer sell it very well. This is why I avoided seeing it untill a few months ago on DVD and it was, for a "summer" movie, pretty goddamm good. I admit I was wrong, I loved it and it now has a place in my DVD collection. But it helps that the movie had a director that used his brain to make the movie rather then someone who papers over the cracks in the script with flashy style.

Damn, that's a very good pick! I'd loveeeee to see Michael Mann take a stab at it :(

It'd have to be somebody who enjoyed the originals...so with that said, Spielberg has my vote. :trans:

anyone but Spelberg. His rediculous piece "war of the world" almost totally destory my apetite to si-fiction movie.

I'd prefer Paul Verhoeven, the guy who direct "Robocop", one of the coolest si-fiction movie I ever saw.

I disagree. With as much money as this first one made it certainly woke up some people who downplayed the appeal that Transformers had. I don't think they'd trust a potential blockbuster sequel to a 'mid-ranged music video/commercial director'.

I still say Brad Bird would do great though.

Michael Bay mus stay. Without Bay and Lebouf it wont be the same.

And Starship Troopers, which (its differences from the book notwithstanding) is one of the best sci-fi movies ever IMHO.

Shia must stay. I agree. Bay in my opinion can go. I mean Rolland Emmerich can easily take his place. Any competent director can do what Bay does. Most just choose not to do it (kinda like boy-band pop music).

You guys are thinking inside the box. The only guy that could direct Transformers 2 with a perfect plot, decent characterization, the best special effects and would flow in the best pace possible is none other than Peter Jackson. Just imagine it, 3 hours of constant robot violence and spine tingling/goosebump causing suspence; I think all of you guys can agree that Pete is really the only director that can meet every expectation of Transformers and would be able to put a smile on every single one of our faces.:woot:

I think Peter Jackson has ascended to Top-Tier nowadays. The OP excluded Top-Tier directors. We're only considering 2nd tier and below- like Michael Bay. :oldrazz: If you guys want more of the same wam-bam eye-candy, only Michael Bay and Rolland Emmerich are the guys to root for.

I want Michael Bay back to be honest, but if he doesnt come back (which i highly doubt) Proyas would probably be the best pick, David Twohy could also be good.

Vector Sigma, what the hell did I say in the first post. You will NOT get Cameron, Spielberg, Zemekis, Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, Bryan Singer, Paul Verhoven or John McTiernan etc, etc.. to do the sequel.

If Bay doesn't do it then Spielberg will go with a lesser name.

I wouldn't let Emmerich near TF.

I f.u.c.k.i.n.g. HATED Bay untill I saw Bad Boys 2 (which I LOVED) and afterwards I was convinced that he was just about the best choice you could hope for apart from someone like Cameron/Verhoven etc, and Bay did not dissapoint. The movie wasn't perfect but I'd give it about 75% and it had quality. Hopefully, now that the ground has been laid, Bay can cut loose and deliver a superior sequel.

Emmerich is a tool. His movies are all setup with stoopid one liners (there were plenty of jokes in TF but they actually made me laugh my ass off). Not only that but his movies allways have a s.h.i.t.t.y. DP and have a cold dull look. I haven't been impressed by a single one of his films and he allways hires that f.u.c.k.i.n.g. HACK Patrick Tatopoulos who is the WORST designer working in films today.

I really want Bay back too but no f.u.c.k.i.n.g. way would I let Twohy near TF after Riddick.

What do you all think about Garth Jennings (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) doing a sequel or even Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz)?

That gets me thinking, what about international Directors?

Two choices that would get me excited would be either Kar Wai Wong or Luc Besson.

Well i liked Riddick so i wouldnt mind Twohy, directing, but i honestly just hope Bay comes back.

Great suggestion...but I can only see him in Middle Earth, ya know?

Unless he's familiar with the original TF, then maybe....
:word:

too bad jerry bruckheimer belongs to the top-tier. :cwink:

Yeah....he did a great job with the Pirates films (producing them that is). And didn't he produce some of Bay's previous works, such as the Rock...Armaggeddon, Pearl Harbor, the Island....

I don't know who else could do it except Bay, ya know?

Not nessasarally, he also did King Kong which was dramatically different from LOTR. He's really the only one who grasped the true concept of LOTR and King Kong and succeeded with flying colors. I really do think he could do TF as well; just as long as he watches G1 and reads every main TF comic book from the 80's, then we'll be good.

Anyone seen the Halo live action shorts done by Neill Blomkamp?

If they can i'd love to see him do Transformers 2 if Bay throws anotyher hissy fit and quits for good.

Good point. But he would need guidance...and that's what we're here for, right? :hyper:
