Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel? - Part 3

Yes, Brie would be my #1 choice! Glad she won last night, her turn in Room was my favorite performance of the year along with the incomparable Jacob Tremblay. If Marvel were interested she just got more difficult to cast considering all the juicy parts that will likely fall her way. It would be huge if they could snag her the same year that Cate Blanchett was cast.

She's not my first pick but she'd be okay. Id prefer they skewed a bit older. Speaking of why doesn't anyone talk about Rachel McAdams? She just dyed her hair platinum blonde.

^

She's in Dr. Strange. I was just talking about how it was a bit of a missed opportunity in the previous iteration of this thread. McAdams would've been my #1 choice by some distance if she wasn't cast in Dr. Strange.

Not my #1, but think she'd do fine. I was looking at Kate Winslet last night and found myself thinking "Geeze, she could be really terrific". I am so impressed with her acting ability and there would be no danger of her ever being overshadowed by anybody on screen.

A little off topic, but you can dress up Tom Hardy in expensive clothes, and the guy STILL looks like a major bad @$$ who you wouldn't want to mess with. I know he's already been in TDKR, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play another role in MCU. Saw Revenant and he has turned out to be a really, really fine actor (not saying he wasn't really good in a lot of his other roles). EDIT: Maybe Gorgon?

Winslet would be better as Medusa, and for Crystal, Marvel should get Imogen Poots, and they would actually look related.

I agree she could kill in that role. She has that imperious air dialed in. Chastain, up to now, was my #1 pick for Medusa, but am rethinking.

Winslet as CM or Medusa would be fine with me, but I don't think there's a snowball's chance she would accept the kind of deal Marvel would be offering for CM. Medusa? Maybe.......

MAN I hope Marvel can get FF back. The Inhumans would provide a great segue for re-introducing the FF. In spite of Deadpool, I'm STILL pissed off at Fox over what they did to my favorite SH team (To be clear, I'm talking about the last movie)

I think if you use up someone with a very majestic, regal quality on Carol, then you have to find someone with even more of those qualities for Medusa. It can't be that Carol seems more like a queen than Medusa. So it's best to save someone with that real gravitas for the queen of the Inhumans instead of having them play Captain Marvel.

It would certainly be tough to out-winslet Winslet. I could also, however, see Blunt playing Medusa, she can also play the high and mighty, arrogant type (I'm remembering The Devil Wears Prada and she has very much improved her skills since that point in her career.) as well as the more down to earth type (Into the Woods for example).

The bottom line is that when you get to the caliber of actor that is Theron, Blunt, Winslet, etc., they have a LOT of range and make their livings depicting just about everything from A-Z. Theron, for example, could pull off Medusa without a hitch.

I wonder if Brie Larson would accept a long term deal? Seems more likely then some of the other candidates.

Theron has said she's not a fan of CGI movies (or something to that effect) during the press tour for Mad Max, but that could have been do to the old-school/practical effects marketing aspect of the film she was promoting.

I don't really see Carol when I look at Brie, but who knows

Certainly wouldn't be one of my favourites for the role

I don't either, but I've spent a long time envisioning Blunt, Theron, Strahovski, and Pike so it's all probably north of my shoulders. A good performance goes a long way towards changing your opinion.

I wasn't on the Brie train until I saw Room a mere 4 days ago. Now I'm definitely sold on her in the part. She and Blunt are my two favorites at the moment.

I'd vote Anna Paquin. Just because Fox made her such a lame Rogue out of her, so it'd be very funny if Marvel made a kick-ass Ms. Marvel out of the same actress, given the two characters had that classic encounter and all.

She's only in her 30s, she's been blonde before, and she's a pretty good actress. Got an Oscar at the age of 4 or so.

Congrats to Brie Larson for winning an oscar, but truthfully, the only oscar winner that matters concerning Captain Marvel is Meg LeFauve for best screenplay in an animated feature. That's right folks. Captain Marvel is getting written by an oscar winner! I say this, because some people want Brie to become Captain Marvel because she won an oscar. The problem I have with that is that "because she won an oscar" is not a compelling reason to cast an actress for a very specific role. There's a reason why in making a movie, everything starts with the script, then the character will be cast accordingly. It's not the other way around. Just sayin.

Meg LeFauve wins best screenplay for Inside Out:

Not that it matters, but she didn't win. Inside Out won Best Animated Film (which means the director and producer won), but while Meg WAS nominated for Original Screenplay as well, Spotlight won. Regardless, it's great to have her on the Captain Marvel team.

Have you heard ANYTHING about CM? How the screenplay is coming, director, hell, vague rumors......???

The only thing I heard is that they were struggling with penning it, but there could be a zillion reasons for that; not all of them bad.

we really need some news on this, just a tidbit, it's getting ridiculous!

yeah, I get more "Squirrel Girl" from Brie
not chubby-bucktooth SG, mind you, more the old school SG
lol

Meg LeFauve gave an update just a few days ago. I posted a link about it a few days ago. Meg and Nicole are "putting big blocks down" and are figuring out the real big questions. So, they are obviously still at the beginning and are laying the foundation for the character. I have a that once they get that part down, everything else will start falling into place and things will progress more quickly. Kevin Feige said that they would start thinking about casting for Carol sometime this year. I doubt Marvel will have a complete script by the time casting starts and they are most likely not going to wait for a director. Marvel just needs to have a good enough idea on who the character is, and that should be the beginnings of the script. Once a writer knows the character, then you know what actions she would take, and her actions are what drives the story.

I wouldn't say that they are struggling. But, there is a challenge in introducing such an overpowered character. How powerful can they make her without making some of the other Avengers look weak? It's probably the same challenges they had with Thor and Hulk.

Cool. Awesome. Thanks. Musta missed the link, but good to know. Now, who DO we want to direct? Psycho Soska's? Elizabeth Banks?

Michael Bay? :o

FYI - I LIKE the Soska's. That being said, they might be just a "little bit" out there......I'd love to be a fly on the wall if they ever met with Kevin about directing a MCU movie.

The Soska twins aren't really "out there"....they come across as fairly normal women with a slight goth-esque vibe to them. At least to me. But anyway, I love their style & if they directed an MCU based movie I'd probably lose my f'n mind I love them so much.

I'm glad this has now been spoken into existence. :D
