Who here thinks THE FLASH cannot support his own movie?

The only way a flash movie can work is as a comedy action adventure imo.

That is not true at all. If Wally West (The Flash since the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths to the end of Infinite Crisis) is The Flash, then yes, it should rely on a mix of action and comedy. That'd be great since the film would also have more appeal. However, it doesn't HAVE to be a action-adventure/comedy. If Barry Allen (The silver-age Flash and arguably the most known/iconic) is The Flash, then it doesn't have to. More than likely, if there was a film, both of them would be in it.

And LMAO to anybody that thinks that all there is to super speed is running fast. :lmao: :down

I think people believe a live action flash would work ever since the tv series. Good writing in quite a few of the episodes actually. Of course it was obviously to expensive to continue at the time.

I've seen a number of people refer to the Rogues as substandard, only to find out that they're simply not familiar with them. Prior to delving into Flash's history, I wasn't that impressed myself, but Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Captain Boomerang, Zoom, etc. make for a more than impressive group of villains.

Making good use of Flash's powers, which extend far beyond 'just running fast' would be a spectacle that hasn't been seen on the big screen. The Scarlet Speedster can certainly support his own movie.
Well said Mister J

My personal choice of villains would be as such

Movie 1-Cobalt Blue and play on the Allen/Thawne history
Movie 2-Prof Zoom
Movie 3-The Rogues together (I'd also have this be the passing of the torch from Barry to Wally)
Movie 4-Zoom

I know not much chance of a 4 film franchise but thats just the way i'd like to see it go

edit

Just to note Wally is by FAR my favorite Flash and I always thought the film franchise should be his from start to finish, but the more I thought about it (which was a lot) I realized it NEEDS to start with Barry, wh btw people forget had his fair share of humorous moments

And I agree with earlier casting of Wally someone mentioned, and Yunjin Kim should be included as either a suppporting or cameo as Linda Park. She just needs something else aside from the Lost typecast.

Captain Cold was created two years before Freeze, so he was the first ice themed villain. Then we won't get into Icicle and Killer Frost.

who the hell is Icicle and Killer Frost?? how have i never heard of these winter themed villans... wow... thats crazy

Also the best way to counter an over powered character is simply to lower his power. Simply dont have the flash easily go the speed of light. Limit his max speed to sound of speed. Also his villains dont simply fight him with fisticuffs. They freeze the ground he runs on or disorient him with mirror clones. Honestly after reading the comics, theirs multiple ways to fight the flash. Though when it comes down to it, ZOOM is a must.

From the comic quotes thread:
After cops mistake Capitan Cold for Mr. Freeze.

Capitan Cold: Mr. Freeze? That love sick freak? He has an ice pistol. Shoots snow. The name's Capitan Cold and this--
*Draws gun*
--is a cold gun.

Mr Freeze is a perfect tradgic villain what is captain colds main motivation in the flash comics? i may be wrong but i bet 90% of the time its just money that was fine for comics 40 years ago but villains and heroes have grown since those inocent times.

Whatever those people say imo these villains sound terrible and completely unknown outside fandom i dont want the villains in a Flash movie to turn up like the ones in the Ghostrider movie i sat there thinking "who the hell are these terrible one sided guys?" whats there motivation?.

Anyone who thinks Flash is one-dimensional" or that superspeed is a boring power has probably never read a Flash comic. The same goes for anyone who thinks it would have to be overly comedic or campy.

I think he could totally support his own movie,
But I also think it would be a wise move on the studio's part to introduce him to the movie going audiance in a team movie like Justice League.
I think the audiance is more likely to accept him and his concept if he is first shown to them along side others like Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman, and of coarse Batman.

I agree that Mr. Freeze is a great tragic villain but as I understand it he was just another ice themed villain before the cartoon. Cold's motivation I guess would revenge on The Flash and his hate of cops.

Leonard Snart was raised by an abusive father and took refuge with his grandfather, who worked in an ice truck. When his grandfather died, Len grew tired of his father's abuse and set out to start a criminal career. Snart joined up with a group of small-time thieves and in planning out a robbery, each was issued a gun and a visor to protect their eyes against the flashes of gunfire. This visor design would later be adapted by Snart into his trademark costume. In recent years he has added a radio receiver to them which picks up the police band to monitor local law enforcement. Snart and the other thugs were captured by the Flash and imprisoned, but Leonard Snart is a man who holds a grudge. He decided to go solo, but knew he had to do something about the local hero, the Flash.

Snart read an article that theorized that the energy emissions of a cyclotron could interfere with the Flash's speed. He designed a weapon to harness that power and broke into a cyclotron lab, intending to use the device to charge up his experimental gun. As he was finishing his experiment, a security guard surprised Snart. Intending to use his gun only to scare the guard, he inadvertently pulled the trigger and discovered that his weapon had been altered in a way he had never imagined. The moisture in the air around the guard froze. Intrigued by this twist of fate, Snart donned a parka and the aforementioned visor and declared himself to be Captain Cold - the man who mastered absolute zero. Snart then committed a series of non-lethal crimes. But after Barry Allen's death, during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Captain Cold became a bounty hunter with his sister Lisa, the Golden Glider.

During the events of Underworld Unleashed, Captain Cold lost his soul to Neron but Wally West brought it back to the land of the living. He soon returned to crime, this time a member of Wally's Rogues Gallery. The Golden Glider had abandoned her bounty hunter career and had started partnering with a series of thugs who she dressed in a costume, armed with a copy of Captain Cold's signature Cold Gun, and called Chillblaine. Already distraught over the death of her lover, the Top, it seemed that the supposed death of her brother pushed her over the edge. But the last Chillblaine was a little smarter and more vicious. He murdered the Golden Glider, prompting Captain Cold to hunt him down, torture him and kill him by freezing his outer layer of skin and then pushing him off a high rise building. Not long after that, Snart was framed by a new incarnation of Mister Element. He used his Element Gun to simulate Cold's gun, using ice and cold to murder several police officers before Captain Cold and the Flash discovered who was actually responsible. With the death of his sister, and having killed Chillblaine and Mr. Element in vengeance, Cold has again become an unrepentant criminal.

Most recently Captain Cold was declared the leader of the Flash's Rogue's Gallery. His skill and experience have made him a strong leader to the likes of the Weather Wizard, the new The Trickster, the new Mirror Master, and the new Captain Boomerang. Len seems to have taken the young Captain Boomerang under his wing, after the elder Boomerang was recently killed. Tabloids rumoured that Captain Cold's sister, the Golden Glider, was Boomerang's mother, making him Captain Cold's nephew. This turned out to be false, however, as the new Boomerang's mother has been revealed to be Meloni Thawne, who is also the mother of Bart Allen. Despite his more ruthless nature as of late, Captain Cold's heart isn't completely frozen... evidenced by having sent flowers to honor Sue Dibny, murdered wife of the Elongated Man.

Traditionally, Captain Cold is driven by three things: money, women, and the desire to beat Barry Allen. Although not the lech that Captain Boomerang was, Len Snart has an eye for the ladies, particularly models. When Barry Allen died, Captain Cold drifted for a while, jumping back and forth over the lines of crime and justice. He was captured by the Manhunter and served time in the Suicide Squad, worked with his sister as a bounty hunter (Golden Snowball Recoveries), and, with his longtime friend and sometimes nemesis Heat Wave, encountered Fire and Ice of the Justice League. He has teamed up with various villains over the years other than the many Rogues... including Catwoman and the Secret Society of Super Villains. His favorite baseball team is the Chicago Cubs. "Plays 'em regular and dumb," according to Mark Shaw, the Manhunter.

Cold takes his position as head of the Rogues very seriously. He employs a no-drugs rule (evidenced by his brutal beating of Mirror Master for his cocaine habit), docks pay for senseless violence (a 90% payout cut for the new Trickster's antics with stray dogs and T-bombs), and will kill only on certain occasions (he killed the Top for setting the newer rogues against him and his set of rogues).

Captain Cold was not entirely as cold hearted as his name suggests. He deeply cared for his sister, aka the Golden Glider, and looked out for the well being of his fellow Rogues at all times, going so far as to arrange a secret funeral for Captain Boomerang. Even after killing the supervillain Chillblaine in revenge for his sisters murder, he was still sitting at his coffee table, lost in a bottle of brews and unable to even open the door for his usual prostitute, realizing, "My heart's not always cold."

One Year Later, he and several other Rogues are approached by Inertia with a plan to kill the Flash (then Bart Allen). Though Inertia was defeated, Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, and Heat Wave killed Bart with a combined barrage of their elemental weapons. He, Heat Wave, and Weather Wizard, seemed to express guilt, however, after learning the identity of the Flash and how young he was.

I definitely think that a Flash movie could support itself and would allow good exposure to what the Flash is all about.

He's on the same level as the working blue collar people that he protects. The people of Keystone city built a Flash museum in his honor. How many heroes have that?

His power level can be tweaked according to the movie and the premise. He could lose his ties to the speed force temporarily if need be for the film. The director can show the Flash speeding up his thought process or slowing it down. And also show that it may look like the Flash may make rash decisions, but in reality, the Flash could slow down time in his mind and make 1 second seem like a hour and come up with a solution or an idea. You can also show him catching bullets that were intended for a crowd full of people, vibrating so fast he seems invisible, or you can have Wally change between his civilian clothes and Flash outfit at super speed in front of the police making it seem as if the Flash and Wally are different people. Seeing Wally multi task with common chores would be interesting.

As for his rogues, some of them are freaking scary. Mirror Master could appear out of anything that is reflective... ANYTHING! Signs, reflective paint, metals, windows, sun glasses, anything that reflects! And he has the ability to turn people into mirrors or teleport them to a mirror world. And he can teleport himself through any reflective surface as well.

Captain Cold has an absolute Zero gun, it causes molecular movement to stop completely. He also leads the rogues and is smart enough not to kill a speedster unless they want to have heat brought onto themselves.

Weather Wizard predates Storm and has the ability to control the weather. He could make it foggy so that the Flash couldn't see a thing and cause the Flash to accidentally run into a person or a thing and demolish it.

Gorilla Grodd is a giant intelligent telepathic Gorilla. That's scary when handled in the right hands and I would maybe leave him out in the movies because he could be portrayed really scary, and some people would probably dismiss a giant telepathic gorilla as a threat if they looked at on the surface.

ZOOM definitely should be left for the final film, if they make 2 films or 3. They need to build him up as they did in the comics and plant the seeds as they did in the comics, have him seen as an ally to Wally, not an enemy and eventually turn him. His power should be true to the comics and Zoom should initially be able to beat him because he uses a different source for his speed. You could maybe have Wally "discover" the speed force, and that causes Wally to beat Zoom. The problem is how do you explain his speed in the previous films if that is done.

The best thing about the rogues is how close they are, how dedicated to one another (in most incarnations).

I've read quit a lot Flash comics, but also i'm pretty sure, that he's got enough potential to carry a movie on his own, i still think that there are some characters in the DCU that are just even more suited for a big screen adaption.

Yeah, we have yet to see a superhero movie where the villains are buds and actually hang out and enjoy each other's company. Or the fact that James Jessie (Trickster is so insane) that he'll be trying to kill the Flash one day then see him in the bar and buy him a beer then next.

Its strange though that one of DCs most famous characters doesnt have a antagonist one villain who tests him at every level this is true of a lot of DC characters imo.

Ever hear of The Rival, Professor Zoom and Zoom (and to a lesser extent, Inertia)? They all possess comparable abilities to their respective Flashes and are responsible for a number of attacks that antagonize Flash on a personal level, particularly in the case of Professor Zoom and Zoom.

The reverse flash is an awesome concept for all of the Flashes. I would definitely save Zoom for the last Flash movie so that people would be fully up to date with the Flash's capabilities. Just reading Johns' run with ZOOM was great and Waid's "The Return of Barry Allen" trade. And like Chicken Scratch had said about the interaction between the rogues, it's great to see them doing things together besides business. And if you think about it, Batman's rogue gallery don't normally work together on a regular basis. I am really looking forward to Johns miniseries " The Rogues Revenge" this summer.

For the most part Batman's villains are loners like him. I think the villains hanging out together and being friends kinda ties into the Flash small town America thing where everybody knows everybody else. Just like Flash knows everyone in the city by name and always stops by and checks up on people. Central City is after all, a pretty small city (I always imagines it being about the size of Providence, Rhode Island).

Exactly, its like the Flash said in his comic. "Superman flies above them, Wonder Woman preaches to them, and Batman hides from them...but me, I run beside them...I'm The Flash"

He's down there with the people, literally. I like how Flash's villains kick it together in the seedy bars and strip clubs discussing how much they hate the Flash, it almost makes it more real and even makes it seem that much more likely that they'd team up to get him.

I would use Zoom in the first movie because he is such an Iconic Flash villain, Imagine Wally getting the crap kicked out of him by Zoom only to have Uncle Barry Rip through space and time to help in run the final race up Zoom's butt and take him down!

That way...Flash can fight the 1st Zoom in the second movie and the NEW Zoom and the OLD Zoom in the 3rd sorta like what Raimi did with the Green Goblins.
