The Latino Review website seems to have it on good authority that actor Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) is a favorite in line to be cast as legendary DC speedster, The Flash. Regarding the list of possible names, it stated:
"We've received word from a very-reliable source that actor Scott Porter is one of those actors. If you'll remember back in the Fall of 2007, Porter auditioned for director George Miller for his (now dead) Justice League: Mortal and was said to be a top candidate for Superman."

They go one in the story is saw that Flash movie wont survive by it's self by saying and I quote
"The cold hard fact is that the Flash cannot possibly carry a film on his own. He is just not that interesting. The greatest example of this was the 1990 attempt by CBS to capitalize on the post-Tim Burton Batman craze with The Flash television series. It was draped with all the dark themes and visuals that were a signature of the popular 1989 Batman film. However, people never quite bought it. Despite being somewhat of a decent series, it unceremoniously disappeared. (With no long, red streak to follow.)"

I find that SOOOO wrong for many reasons, the story kind of Portrays the Flash as a comic or less being hero unlike their icons Batman or Superman. But flash has a real good story line and he doesn't get the respect he deserves like when Zoom kills his unborn child when he attempted to win a childhood feud by trying to get with Wally's wife Linda and she refused, after the death Linda leave blaming Flash saying it was his donning of Barry's costume that caused it all. or when he has to fight villains like Murmur or Abra Kadabra (ok name is gay I'll give you that)
BUT still saying Flash is not that interesting I find offensive if anything Superman isn't interesting unless it's in the elsworlds

But none of that stuff is Hollywood is it? It would never sell. It's great in comics and really works but when you're introducing him to the countless children who've never heard of him, well studios want something that sells a Happy Meal these days.

You've both got it wrong. You don't need to tell a Flash story by focusing on all the dark s*** in his life. You could do a trilogy starting with a quasi-adaptation of the Messner-Loebs run, then a middle film quasi-adapting the Mark Waid run, and finally a third film quasi-adapting Johns' run culminating in Rogue War. Hell, you could probably do five or six films on that model: first film, have Barry die as Flash, and Wally as Kid Flash vow to step up. Second film, do a Messner-Loebs early-career story. Third and fourth films would be based on the Waid run. Fifth and sixth films would be based on the Johns run.

Bottom line, Chuck, I don't see why superheroes have to be dark and gloomy and brooding to be good.

Adam, where I take issue with you is this Happy-Meal thing. The Dark Knight may sell Happy Meals, but that's not all it is. And do you somehow think that Flash couldn't sell Happy Meals and toy tie-ins? He's got tons of villains. He's a perfect idea for a motion toy. He's brightly colored. And he's a freakin' superhero.

oh no I wasn't saying it needs to be dark
I just didn't like how they say Flash isn't a serious or importent hero in the dc world
he has a sad life. and hollywood loves it.

I don't care how they do the movie I just hope they do it GOOD

im less worried about this and more worried about the rumor of the wachowskis directing a superman trilogy... as if the singer abortion wasnt bad enough

Why isnt this in the DC films forum?

because chuck is a myspace villain

This thread isnt really needed since we already have a few flash threads and have been talking about this scott porter rumor for a few days already. Though i do hope flash is finally getting some movement again.

Whoever said that is a complete idiot when it comes to Flash, they clearly don't know anything about him.

The TV show was very good for its time, in fact, it was ahead of it in many ways. The first few weeks it was on had GREAT ratings, but it kept getting pushed aside for coverage of the Persian Gulf War and sports. This resulted in unorthodox showtimes, audiences didn't have a clue when it would be on, and they can't watch a show if they don't know when it's on, this led to the eventual cancellation of the show after one season. It had nothing to do with quality or Flash not being interesting or whatever.

That said, my own personal dislikes about the show were this:

They tried to do it dark, like the Batman movie. It was good for Batman cuz he's a dark character but not for The Flash, who was never a dark character in a dark world. Secondly, they made him vengeance driven, Barry and even Wally were never vengeance driven, there was no death in Barry's story that made him into the Flash. I also didn't like that they only had Iris in one episode and gave Barry Wally's love interest in the current comics, Tina McGee. And the changing of the boots from gold to red - I did not like that. The suit was good except for the obviously fake muscles, again Batman film inspired.

Other than that, I'd say the show was one of the BEST examples of a comic book tv show to date and should have lasted longer.

And The Flash (all of them, especially Barry Allen (my fave) and Wally West) is an interesting character who could not only support a movie but several. I think he'd have a message to give to the ignorant person who said otherwise: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh147/GLKEL/scan0001-2.jpg

A little Flash inspiration.

********! The Flash is one of the most powerful DC heroes...
He can kill pretty much anyone by out speeding them and using his momentum as a destructive force. It was he who killed the Anti-Monitor remember?

A very interesting character who was the moniker for 4 different people.
They should do it in the style of the Green Lantern movie....
Barry and Hal.... COPS!

Good points.

I agree that using the TV show in order to demonstrate why the character cant sustain his own movie is ******ed.

If memory serves, wasnt it put up against the Simpsons at one point, which at the time was slaying all before it in the ratings. There was also the problem of budget - each episode cost so much that there was no way to justify it financially, given the relative viewing numbers.

In all due respect to that series, it wasn't given a fair chance to succeed. Shortly after it debuted, it was preempted by the OJ Simpson murder case and then later on by the Major League Baseball League Championship and World Series. The show was then moved to a time slot where it had to compete with the Cosby Show over on the NBC network, which was the kiss of death. It would have been better off being sold into syndication since a independent network would have given it better air time.

I remember reading a tv guide interview with the president of CBS. He basically admitted he killed the show by moving it around and not giving it a chance. It was doing well in Europe and S.America.

dnno1, the show couldn't have been pre-empted by the OJ murder case. That was 1995. The show ended in 1990.

Nope, that honor would actually go to Eart 2 Superman. Flash destroyed the Anti-Monitor's...dark matter machine thingy or whatever it was.

Does anyone remember that hardcover Flash book that came out a few years back? Life Story of the Flash? It was presented as a biography of the Flash and "Written" by Iris Allen. I'd do the first Flash movie like that. It would be a neat way to introduce all of the Flash characters and maybe tie in DC Crossovers. If I were Warner brothers and going to do any crossover movies in the future, I'd use the Flash as the vehicle for that. He has the speed to be in any town in basically an instant. Plus Flash works well with everyone.
