I mean we know who Thor and Loki's mother was as it was Queen Frigga of Asgard but who was Hela's mother?

Good question. In the MCU nobody knows.
In the comics Odin has had several relationships, with Gaea(Thor's mother), Phoenix Force, Frigga...

We can also see why they decided to make Hela part of the family. It does make sense and gives that character more weight and it's more relatable us, the story and our heroes.

Hela's parents in Norse mythology are Loki and a Jotunn sorceress called Angrboda (or Angerboda). They were her parents originally in the comics too until Jason Aaron retconned Hela's back story and made her a 'creation' of Loki rather than his biological child. In Aaron's run kid Loki created his 'perfect friend' which he called Leah and wrote her into existence, and then a load of **** happened and Loki ended up asking Hela to send Leah far back in time to protect her from his own evil self and it turned out that Leah grew up to become Hela, so Hela actually sent her child self back in time, creating a neverending time loop... Ya gotta love comics. :funny: I guess it explains why Hela often looks older than Loki and is more powerful than him though.

In the MCU, who knows? I doubt it's Frigga, just because I can't ever imagine her letting Odin imprison one of her children for thousands of years and then never be allowed to even mention her, especially after how compassionate she was to Loki. Also, there was no trace of Frigga on any of the hidden murals. My personal head canon is that Karnilla (The Norn Queen) is Hela's mother in the MCU and that she was a product of a political union between Odin and Karnilla in Asgard's history. It would explain Hela's insane magical abilities, her wickedness, her dark hair and her love for extravegant head gear. :woot:

I wouldn't be surprised if Odin was with Death because he was with the Phoenix in the comics.

Interesting, but Death is a cosmic entity, an abstract concept that merely cloaks itself in the guise of a humanoid woman, I highly doubt that 'she' would actually be able to create life. Is there any precedent in the comics of such a thing? I can't recall any right now. It's a really cool concept though, Hela being the 'child of Death' rather than Death itself. It would certainly explain why she's so powerful, being half Asgardian and half cosmic entity. :cwink:

I just reread the Original Sin.

in it, Odin argued with the Queen of Angels during time before time, time before history (back during Stone Age most likely, Angela was born at this time) and he mentions Hela which means she was a Goddess of Death and the ruler of Hel way before Thor and Loki were born.

yeah, I guess it's because she didn't die during the Ragnarok cycles or it's Leah send back in time.
