“Substantial” suggests that Kim will be more than just a background character and that The Avengers: Age of Ultron may even be setting her up for a bigger role in future Marvel features. Her involvement in the film has been rumored for a while, and according to those rumors she may be playing a doctor with connections to Ultron, who is tasked with Tony Stark’s medical care. There’s not too much to go on right now, but feel free to speculate on Kim’s character in the comments.

I'm not putting much weight behind that substantial statement. Could just be her agency trying to up her profile and embellishing on the size of the role. The way they referred to it as "the scene" also suggests she is only in one scene, albeit probably am important one in Ultrons creation.

My first thought was that she might be playing Madame Hydra. However, Monica Chang is also a possibility, and maybe even Jocasta. I see no reason to doubt that her character will be "substantial" to the plot until I have some evidence that she's not. The fact that they're keeping her character a secret would seem to indicate that she might very well be important.

I think Madame Hydra, Su Yin and Monica Chang are most likely. Wasp and Jocasta are unlikely, although Wasp could certainly be an option if Evangeline Lilly is not Janet.

I don't see any need for a veil of secrecy if she's playing someone like Monica Chang or Su Yin, though. What's the big deal about keeping those characters secret?

If secrecy is involved, that would be more likely to point towards characters like Madam Hydra, Wasp, or Jocasta --- I could definitely see reasons for Marvel to keep those plot points under wraps for now (at least from the general public....to us geekarazzi, though, there isn't anything the least bit shocking/surprising about backstory on HYDRA, Ultron, or Janet Van Dyne).

I know of none. But Mantis was one of the more important avengers of Asian race. Her father was a member of Zodiac. Zodiac exists in MCU because of Peggy Carter one shot. Ultron sometimes uses humans, but he has no use for us.
