Who made a bigger miscalculation? Raimi with Gwen or Avi with Venom?

Raimi throwing away the opportunity to do an epic Death of Gwen storyline

or Avi Arad pushing Venom into SM3?

Raimi failing to give gwen a classic death, and Raimi failling to give Venom the treatement he deserved

Sorry but both chracters worked well for the film. Gwen's use was perfect.

Gwen was such a wasted character in this :(

Ugh...they still got the main basis and origin of Venom down..but poor Gwen :(

The Death of Gwen Stacy would have changed the tone of all the the Spider-man sequels.

Every kidnapping would have more suspense and intensity.

Every rescue a greater triumph.

Every time Spider-man gives up on being a hero or turns dark or tries to redeem himself it would have a lot more depth, context, and gravity. He became Spider-man because of Uncle Ben but failing to rescue Gwen Stacy torments him and brings great urgency to saving the day.

Taking away the Death of Gwen Stacy is like taking out the "father-son" revelation from Star Wars. It's a huge mistake that prevents the Spider-man movies from reaching the next level. Also it's one of the greatest Spider-man stories ever told and Raimi didn't do it any kind of justice.

Equally bad use for both. Barely some gimmicks for fans.

Realistically....neither.

Would I have liked to see Gwen in SM1? Sure. Would the inner fanboy have relished her death scene? Absolutely. But this is a movie for ALL ages, and what kind of message would that send to impressionable children? Hey kids, if you try to do the right thing...everyone close to you will die and it will be all your fault! Now, finish your popcorn.

Likewise, would I have enjoyed more Venom? Who wouldn't? But Venom had a purpose, he fulfilled his purpose, and that's the end of that.

Both were wasted characters. Venom should've been saved for the next film and Gwen should've done more in the film. I was really hoping to see more of her and less of MJ.

Raimi made the greater miscalculation in assuming that fanboys would appreciate the reference (Gwen), instead of *****ing about Gwen's wasted potential and his failure to stuff her comic storyline into an already packed movie.

Gwen's role could have easily been replaced with Betty.Don't get me started with Venom......

I don't think it would send that message at all, in fact, quite the opposite. It would show the kids that sometimes, despite what you try, bad things happen, but at the same time it would also show Peter's inner strength. He would be brought to a rage were he would almost kill the Goblin, then relent, thus showing that killing, even in revenge, is a horrible thing.

I mean heck, the original comic where Gwen died was being read by children and they didn't suffer because of it. Also, many very popular childrens movies have good characters die, look at Star Wars or Lion King. Also, the Spider-man movie isn't meant for kids under 6 to 7ish, all the movies were rated PG-13, so it's not like we have tons of 4 or 5 year olds watching this.

They had a reason to introduce Gwen and her father- to broaden Peter's world, which makes ALOT of sense... one of the key difficulties with the next couple of Spider-Man films is oddly not the villains, but finding a replacement for the character of Harry Osborn who was integral to the so far trilogy.

You mean how in the end Harry did the right thing yet still died. How is that any different.

He sacrificed himself to save a friend. Gwen was killed for no logical reason...possibly by Spider-Man himself.

But it sends the same message of Spider-man being unable to save Gwen.Sometimes even when you do the right thing, stuff can go terribly wrong.

Still, Harry WILLINGLY went into battle, and he WILLINGLY leaped in front of the blades.

Gwen was kidnapped, and thrown off the bridge. Not much consent there. (No Sins Past pun intended.)

Eh, I like the gal who played Gwen, but in this film she was so generic, anyone could have played the part. As for venom, I was happy enough with what I got. Neither for me. :)

Yes but i wasn't talking about Gwen I was talking about Peter. He like Harry does the right thing and in the end pays a high price for it.Also don't remind me of Sins Past.

Gwen character is still under developed. I hope we'll see more of Gwen in future installments, killing off gwen in this movie is still too early.

Well I meant...consent....Gwen and Norman doin' it....God I hate that story.

Captain George Stacy and Gwen were both in to expand upon Peter's universe, thus it is more than a safe bet to say they will be in Spider-Man 4.

Did anyone truely expect Gwen to die in this? It was just a nod to her character, he never intended to make a big deal about her role in the movie, especially with MJ being the love of his life from the get go. Now, if the question is did he waste this opportunity in SM1 to do her story, that is another issue. Having the death of Gwen Stacy following up the last two movies would have not been a logical progression.

No no no....the threadmaker meant that Gwen should have been in the 1st movie.

Like I said, that is another issue. To answer that, I would like to have seen the Death of Gwen Stacy on the big screen. That is what eventual reboots are for.

They both pretty much sucked and were unneccessary.
