Apparently there will be a Die Hard prequel with the franchise being reset in a sense rebooted all the way back to before the Die Hard movies even took place with a young John McClane so that being said which actor do you think could play the young 1970s era John McClane?

I wouldn't. Iconic characters that aren't a translation from some other source material but that are rather born on the screen I feel don't lend themselves to anyone else taking the role over(Marty McFly/Doc Brown, Indiana Jones, Dirty Harry Calahan and yes John McLane all fall into this category). For them the definitive versions have already happened. For all other IP's, their original source material was the definitive version of them so changing it up is far easier.

affleck. Just for the internet uproar.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt already played a young Bruce in Looper.

^With ridiculous looking heavy make up.

I hate this trend of prequels and new POV flicks based on existing franchises. It's a loophole to get out of the remake belt.

I'd rather they flat out Fury Road the franchise and recast with Ben Affleck.

Why not a prequel focusing on a young Hans Gruber instead?

Ryan Reynolds, so he can fill his annual box office bomb quota.

Eventually (like in 10 years), they'll HAVE to reboot Die Hard, Terminator, Rambo, Lethal Weapon, etc. So I say start from scratch.

Only if they want to be even more creatively bankrupt and bereft of original ideas than they already are.

The next Die Hard should be about a guy trying to stop a bunch of people trying to make another Die Hard.

This idea of a Die Hard/McLane prequel is so contrived. Its the horse that they have beaten to death but they don't want to stop beating it. Zero interest in this film unless the trailer is IMPRESSIVE beyond the capacity for rational thought...

Wouldn't a John McClane-prequel just be a story of an average New York cop dealing with basic cop stuff? The point of the character is that he's more or less an everyman. Skilled and experienced enough not to spend the whole film hiding in a corner, sure. But a man dealing with things way out of his pay grade, nonetheless.

Yep, it pretty much ruins the concept the first one if the situation is something that McClane has been through before.

It’s obvious that ruining the concept is something they stopped caring about two movies ago.

They stopped caring with the fifth film.
Live Free or Die Hard wasn't too bad.
