Who should challenge Trump in 2020?

There is no doubt the "piss off libruls" sentiment is quite strong among his deepest die hard supporters.

That's the disturbing part - Trump's election seems to be a very perverted little wish fulfillment exercise where people basically elected themselves.

They elected someone who they wish they could be but who, in reality, cares very little about them.

It's sad really.

It's like a pimp flashing his jewels and luxury cars and telling some mark he can be his friend if he introduces the pimp to all his female family members and female friends and gives the pimp his social security number.

I think it's very different if you actually have a celebrity on the ticket. If the Rock or Beyonce threw their names in the ring it would be a resounding success, I'm almost certain.

Hillary did still win the popular vote too, and she has the charisma of a charred corpse - someone like the Rock would probably clean up, unfortunately.
The Rock is really likable. I think people all over the political spectrum likes him. He could challenge Trump.

But he shouldn't.

Absolutely ****ing not. I don't care how likable he is; he's not qualified to be president. We need someone who knows what they're doing in the White House, full stop. You wouldn't hire a dog walker to do your taxes, so don't elect a celebrity to lead and represent your country.
We just did :funny:

Definitely should be a requirement to have some political experience to become president. Otherwise you can just pick someone from "America's Got Talent" or something. And as crazy as the world feels right now I wouldn't be surprised if the election turns into a full blown reality competition show in the future where anyone can try their luck...

If not Joe Biden, I’m really starting to think the Dems need a Bill Clinton-Joe Biden type to lead the ticket in 2020. I don’t see the country electing someone like Bernie Sanders; the GOP will paint him as a socialist who will bankrupt the United States.

I think the 2020 election could be like the 1992 election where an underdog rises up to beat a weak incumbent president but it depends on who leads the Dem ticket and what the campaign message is.

I’m curious if Montana Governor Steve Bullock will jump into the race.

Bill Clinton only won because Ross Perot was a spoiler.

I don't think we need a GOP challenger.

Lots of Trump voters realize he's a con artist (about time, sheesh).

Also the protest vote won't help him as much since many realize the protest vote didn't help squat.

I think Biden should run with someone like Bullock, Harris, et al as a fresh vice presidential candidate. That way, it sets up the younger person in case Biden gets incapacitated.

I wonder if certain sections of the country would be on suicide watch if Kamala Harris ever got elected. They lost their minds for a black man. But a black/Indian woman? Where's the gun.

Plus she has Jamaican blood.

I hope they play Buffalo Soldier before her acceptance speech. :lmao:

(Redemption Song would be cool actually)

Did Bernie always have so many votes on the poll?

I feel like it comes in ebbs and flows. Trump does something stupid in regards to healthcare and everyone wants Bernie then he does something stupid to women and everyone wants Kirsten gellibrand.

Still, people would have said that's about Barack Hussein Obama but he did get elected twice and still has pretty high approval ratings. It's a risk but it seems worked before. That said though the world has changed since Obama first turned up

I'm pretty sure we were hit by bots.

Maybe a mod can confirm or deny this.

Ha, it's a funny thing to make a bot for but idk

Maybe not a bot but maybe a sudden rush of new users who vote and disappear.

A quiet but consequential battle for staff and cash has begun among ambitious Democrats with their eyes on the 2020 presidential race. The party is likely to start with a bigger field — perhaps much bigger — than the unwieldy Republican batch that produced Donald Trump as the nominee.

Our conversations with well-wired Democrats produced a list of three dozen names that range from possible to plausible to probable. Other potential candidates seem certain to emerge, based on who looks strong after the 2018 midterms.
Several have begun to actively talk to potential staff members, and a few more have put out feelers, according to Democrats familiar with the conversations.

It's of course unlikely that whoever we're buzzing about 1,159 days before the election ("Bullish on Bullock!") will be the correct answer.
Breaking the potential candidates into formal tiers at this point would be silly. But here are groupings that emerged with our conversations with veterans of past Democratic presidential campaigns, as well as younger operatives likely to be involved in the 2020 campaign:

Watched most closely: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.), Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Sen. Kamala Harris (Calif.), New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The classics: Joe Biden, John Kerry, Al Gore, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Outsiders: New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper

Has begun seeking staff: Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.), Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio).

Many in Obamaworld like: former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Rep. Seth Moulton (Mass), former Missouri SecState Jason Kander.

Many in Clintonworld like: Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, former Ag Secretary and Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro.

Possible if wins reelection: Sen. Sherrod Brown (Ohio).

Wants to be mentioned: Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.).

Wild cards: Sen. Al Franken (Minn.), Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, Rep. John Delaney (Md.).

Non-politicians: Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Mark Cuban, The Rock, Starbucks Executive Chairman Howard Schultz, Disney CEO Bob Iger, Oprah, George Clooney.

Someone Trump would have no idea what to do with, and who'd win women with authenticity and Southern charm: Sally Yates, the acting attorney general fired by Trump.

Be smart: A huge challenge for Democrats is that the energy, action and money are on the left (the Warren-Sanders wing). But winning in 2020 will require winning over working-class, more centrist voters who helped put Trump in office. Anybody who doesn't spend their weekdays in Washington is likely to have an advantage, so watch the governors and others who can run as outsiders against the incumbent GOP.

Translation: they're going to nominate the rock lol.

Seriously though now is the time to start making serious predictions because I think things will start moving quickly now

They'd have to display some ****ing astounding stupidity to consider anyone that exhibits similar traits to Trump. i.e politically inexperienced celebrity that's all style no substance. Choosing someone that is a celebrity and is not well-versed in political discourse would be party suicide, they need someone that can inspire confidence due to their ability but that also has an engaging personality.

Going full Idiocracy by selecting a random celebrity that plebs like seeing in movies sounds incredibly dumb.

Here are the names I think go for it Harris, Bullock, McAulliffe, Warren, Booker. I think it'll be one of them.

I think it's tricky because pretty much the only way to win is to find a Corbynesque left socialist leaning person but it's likely the North Korean issue is likely to be a big part of the next election and if you bollocks that up you'll definitely loose

Harris/Yates ticket?

A Corbynesque approach will only lead to the same kind of divisive discourse that got Trump elected in the first place - there needs to be a centrist. Whoever it is needs to be able to unite people, not further divide them.
