So in the comics Spider-man has a central role in Civil War. Marvel Studios was positioning Black Panther to take over this role but now Marvel can use Spider-man in their movies.

What should Marvel do? Should they use Black Panther or Spider-man in the traditional Spider-man role?

they already have cast T'Challa. Most agree it was a great cast. Let's make use of it.

Civil War starts shooting in like 2 months right? I dont think there's enough time to seriously integrate a brand new spidey into the script.

Unless of course Marvel has known about this for a long time and has it all figured out already, which is completely possible

A lot of rumors dating back to last year suggest that there a couple of versions of the CW script. some include Spidey already, some are without Iron Man in case the negotiations with RDJ failed.

I'd honestly like to see Peter in a science role when he's not Spider-man. Working with BP and Tony in the lab but I doubt they'd have that happen.

I don't see Spider-man joining a pro-registration side.

Having him reveal his identity would ruin his stand alone movies to some extent.

But they can use that to introduce Mephisto/Satan in the movies and make him reboot it all because that worked so well last time.

I think Black Panther will retain the "caught-in-the-middle" role as it has been reported. Seems too late in production for them to place Spider-Man back in that role.

They never even said BP was playing Spidey's role, this has always just been fan speculation.

He doesn't otherwise have much to do in civil war and the SDCC announcement more than implied that he would be caught between the different sides

I think people are assuming too much. I'm going to assume Panther's influence is going to be more to do with the fact that both sides are going to want him because of that sweet Wakandan tech, and I could also see the Anti-Reg heroes trying to hide out there.

Spider-Man as he exists is not gonna play the same role he did in the comics. Trust me on that. The concept of secret identities has been non-existent in the MCU so why would it be a big deal for some snot nosed brat (one who hasn't even been seen or heard of before in the MCU) unmasking himself on TV and siding with Tony Stark? Who would care, in-universe?

If you had asked me this just a few months ago, I would have said Spider-Man...but since then I've seen how excited Boseman is for the role and I hate to think of how disappointed he'd be to get shelved this close to filming. I also feel like it's a big middle-finger to the character when this is his first chance to shine and Spider-Man has had so many films already.

From the perspective of making the best Captain America movie possible, I also think Black Panther would be better. I dig the idea of Captain America versus Iron Man partly because they are of equal popularity, so adding someone more popular than either really takes the spotlight off of the main characters (especially Captain America!) Black Panther would have the appeal of a new third party without overshadowing the conflict itself.

Ultimately, it comes down to what role the Spider-Man/Black Panther character is playing in this film. What is the conflict? Why are Captain America and Iron Man fighting? The answer to those questions might make me believe Spider-Man is more appropriate but, from what I know, Black Panther seems to be the better choice.

They were thinking about doing Civil War storyline even without RDJ? Are you sure about that? If you could link to where you saw that, I'd love to know more.
