What a night. Fearnet caught up with Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey this weekend who chatted briefly about the quite-alive remake of Pascal Laugier's Martyrs, and dropped a few nuggets of laugh-out-loud information. Get this: "I think it's not remake-able in its form for an American audience." OK. Then he dropped this whoopper: "We're doing it for an American audience with an American cast," dropping this brilliant casting idea out there, "I would love for Kristen to do it." When he says "Kristen" he's referring to that lovable and charming Kristen Stewart. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing her knocked around a bit -- but seriously, COME ON! As the great Biff Tannen once said, "Hello? Hello? Anybody home? Huh? Think, McFly. Think!"

I just find it funny how everyone is losing their stuff. I saw the originally and didn't really care for it and I prolly will not see this. Cause I honestly, don't know how this is gonna translate for the US audiences. Cause this movie is so seriously F**ked up and I don't know how they will handle the last act of the film, which is just her getting the wholly hell bet out of her.

But I know this it'll be funny seeing the people complain and cry, i mean it already is. and again I'll say I could careless about the remake.

Some of this newer European cinema is pretty funky, it's like a throwback to the horror films/ exploration films from the 70's...

I mean I liked and own both High Tension and Frontier(s). but I just really didn't care for this movie really. I mean I heard all these raving reviews and such, saying its the best thing in a while and so and so.

But you know thats how reviews are, I guess I should have watched it, before eventually buying it.

It's amazing how many films this girl's getting. She can't act. . . .

Just gotta remember, the person who produces Twilight is also doing this.

And I haven't seen much of her work, but maybe its just in Twilight it seems that way.

French horror hit 'Martyrs' will undergo an American exorcism

November 15, 2010 | 7:10 pm

EXCLUSIVE: Cineastes and hardcore horror fans are already familiar with the French film "Martyrs," Pascal Laugier's dark and violent tale centering on two teenage girls who are not what they appear to be.

Now broader American audiences could become familiar with the movie too.

Producers on the Hollywood remake have just hired a director: Daniel Stamm, the filmmaker behind this summer's horror hit "The Last Exorcism," will shape the film for an English-language audience. (Oh, yes, the movie comes from the producers of "Twilight.")

As most horror-crazy types could tell you, Laugier's 2008 original was a hit in Europe and a cult success here. It tells of Lucie and Anna, orphans who establish a friendship, until one of them inexplicably goes on a murderous rampage to avenge what may or may not have been earlier incidents of child abuse. The movie was well received for not only its stylish tone but its exploration of the themes of guilt and repression.

We'll have more Tuesday from Stamm, one of the horror world's up-and-coming stars (he's also directing the next movie in M. Night Shyamalan's "Night Chronicles"). In the meantime, here's what he has to say about how "Martyrs" can be translated for a new audience. "Martyrs is very nihilistic," he told 24 Frames. "The American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don't have to shoot yourself when it's over."
Stamm did dismiss the Internet rumor that Kristen Stewart could be starring in the remake, laughing and quizzically saying that it's "the first time I've heard that."

As for the movie's story, Stamm says that its appeal lies in how it defies expectations.

"Every time you think you know where it's going, it goes somewhere else. It plays on things that are familiar — like two friends who can't be separated, kind of a Forrest Gump and Jenny situation. But then it takes a turn, and in doing so asks interesting quesitons. 'If you have a best friend in the world and she goes crazy, how much do you owe this friend to go down with them?' It's much more than a horror film."

I decided "no" once I got past "Who Wants to See Kristen Stewart."

Martyrs is kind of the European art house take on torture porn. There are certainly some images that will stick with you, but I don't know if I would really call it a great movie.

I think she's a fien actress she was good in Speak, INto to Wild, In the Land of Women
THe problem with her is that she only acts one way...the awkward/shy/quiet girl

She really needs to get a role being very lively and charismatic.

This movie sounds pretty messed up though

What's the point of remaking this?
It'll be extremely dumbed down and sanitized for american audiences.

That's probably the point.

Quick answer to the thread title:

No:o

I would very much want to see her being [BLACKOUT]skinned alive[/BLACKOUT]... but not in a Martyrs remake.

It's a French film and its WAY F**KED UP! About as extreme it can get.

I will say this, it makes any American films look like P*ssies.

It's not that bad.

It's a terribly underwhelming film that you're either going to go with at the end or feel completely cheated.

I was kind of with the film for the first half [BLACKOUT]but after Lucie dies the film just becomes a more extreme version of Hostel with a really pretentious ending they didn't really earn.[/BLACKOUT]
