Ok, I have a confession to make. Even though he is an effete Englishman with sketchy looks, Cumberbatch would probably be okay in the part. He's not my first choice, but....I will give him a chance.

At the live event they claimed they were actively casting for Captain Marvel.

Maybe they plan to announce who is playing Carol and Strange in a one-two punch.

'Officially' is a broad term.Even after the party agrees to work together there are hundreds of tiny details they need to work out,especially in a Marvel contract.Maybe the contract was not completely done

Cumberbatch is just another uninspired fan choice, and if they are to go for uninspired fan casting they might as well go with Depp.
It's gotten as bad with Jensen Ackles or Nathan Fillion when it comes to Cumberbatch.

Completely uninspired. Why would people want a talented actor who fits the role for Dr. Strange? Especially one who's younger than someone like, say, Phoenix and isn't turned off by the long term commitment. Silliness.
