I have given it a little thought. It seems Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine and Jean would make it to Ultimate Phoenix Saga alive.

Candidates:
Ultimate Rogue: Seems like a throwaway character. I don't like her. I don't know that anyone likes her.
Ultimate Iceman: Rumor was it is one of the original five...Iceman could easily die saving Rogue as recent issues show him having a couple close calls doing this already.
Ultimate Nightcrawler: Could be our savior and martyr. Especially since he is crazy, it's a little hard to unwrite that.
Ultimate Cyclops: Though it seems highly unlikely, especially since Kirkman has done nothing to build upon him anyways. However Kirkman likes surprises.
Ultimate Storm: It would be a big deal that is for sure...

Ultimate Shadowcat?

She seems to be on Bendis' safe list...but I suppose.
If they really wanted to shock us, she would be it. And the tragedy, she's a character with lots of potential, who has just decided
to leave the mansion. Imagine if she died before she could?
Her time in USM appears to be coming to an end as well, based on the solicits for Feb.

Whoever dies, the book will still suck.

Considering the recent filmed debacle, however, would this really be considered a surprise or just a continuation of Marvel's tendency to mimic the events in their movies?

Exactly why I put it.

However considering it was a debacle and Joey Q and team actually seem to have a soft spot for Cyclops (trying actually to make him relevant again) I doubt it. Also Kirkman has not earmarked Cyclops at all. Usually people who die (like Beast) start to be a focus right before they get the can.

It's possible, but Shadowcat, Rogue, Iceman, or Nightcrawler all seem more likely.

They might save Cyclops for whenever Singer comes on, its celar Singer had been building up Cyclops for a big character defining moment in X3, but he never got the chance to do it. But when does Singer actually come aboard, who knows.

I dunno, I'll start checking Hell for temperature drops.

Singer was building up Cyclops? I had forgotten he was even in X2 a few times.

LOL He was?

I can't remember Cyke doing pretty much anything in either movie.

X Men: Looks dorky compared to wolverine. Gets his ass kicked by toad.

X2: Looks dorky compared to wolverine. Gets his ass kicked by deathstrike and jean. Made stryker's hoe.

Im so glad the movies killed cyke. Got rid of dead weight, and the comics would also be better for him being gone.

Well limited screen time aside, its clear that X3 was supposed to be a Cyclops character arc, not Wolverine doing his best Scott Summer impression.

Yea a Cyclops focused movie would of been just as successful. :whatever:

It has an "X" in the title. It would have been just as successful either way. X-Men fans have consistently proved that we will buy anything no matter how much we hate it, as long as it has an "X" in it.

In that movie series. No. It was pretty clear that both Singer and Ratner had no intention to stay true to the stoic, strong, but emotionally impaired leader of the X-Men. From the onset he was a dick. The first movie was probably his shining moment, which actually tried to show some of the nice guy we get in the comic. However it quickly deteriorated into the ONE character who could not stand Wolverine. Everyone else practically worshipped the ground he walked on, except Scott. He reeked of a whining little boy by the second and third, even making stupid and rash decisions like "I'm going to blast the door down!".

Yeah wonderful way to treat him, as the guy who eventually starts taking it up the butt from Wolverine.

If they had done a movie more true to the comics, which showed X-Men as a team...not as "Wolverine's and his Amazing Friends" we could have had a good Cyclops character arc. But they did not. The studio and the people involved felt Wolverine and Magneto were the only two important X-Men in canon.

The irony of course being that Cyclops (nicknamed the "indispensible X-Man") is not only a well developed X-Man (IGN naming him the best X-Man of all time) but he is the most important character in X-Men lore. He was the first. The leader. Fathered two popular X-Men. Is brother to another. Married the first female lead of X-Men. And is the focus of series shaping stories like Dark Phoenix Saga, Inferno, X-Ecutioner's Song, Fall of the Mutants, X-Factor (first incarnation), Original Five and nearly every issue until 200 (and many of the ninties).

However as I say, the studio wanted to replace X-Men with Wolverine, so this is what we got.

And don't act like Cyclops is the only shafted character either. Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, Rogue Pyslock, Gambit, or any other X-Villains were used to the potential (if at all) they should have been for a 3 movie series.
