Would you go big name actor or unknown actor? I just want to hear some names that people think would work.

If it's an origin flick then Matt Damon. That's someone I can buy as a scrawny kid with good use of CGI and then this mass of muscle.

the marine himself john cena

Brad Pitt isn't perfect for the role but he's the best possible candidate and he's a good enough actor to play a straight arrow like Cap.

he has star power and can bring in movie goers.

plus he can get buff for the role (see Troy).

If you're casting someone strictly on comic-accurate looks, then yes, Cena. I saw "The Marine", however, and IF, and that is a big IF, he can polish his acting quite a bit, then I would agree.
For Marvel to dismiss him without serious consideration would be a big mistake, especially since they are producing their own movies now.
Seeing Cap on the big screen will depend largely on how well "Iron Man" does. ANNNND... considering that Marvel went with a casting choice for Tony Stark that left a few scratching their heads, they seem to be willing to go with a choice that THEY feel may round out the character more than a production company recomendation. After all, if MARVEL feels that RDJ conveys the character they created, who are we to argue?
Cap always seemed like the "geekiest" Marvel character, in terms of personality. He seemed to be kinda like Supes for DC... pretty lame in the fact that the character is so upright and moral...maybe a wooden, shallow actor like Cena would be just what they need..

In all seriousness, please no more suggesting these big named hollywood a-listers who would demand astronomical paychecks, put little effort into the role, and then quit after doing one movie and calling it a "blot" on their career.

MATT DAMON!!!

No brainer here. Awesome as Bourne and a great actor. He is the perfect Steve Rogers.

Yes, he is great as an actor. Yeah, he has the sqare jaw and such, but he is only 5'10" according to IMDB. IMDB says they verify bio information through an actor's agent, so Ihave no doubt that Damon's agent claims he is 5' 10", But that would seem to be a bit of a fib. He's closer to 5'8", making him 6 inches too short to be Cap.
SHOCKER: He is 36 years old. I thought he was on the low side of 30.

You do realize that out of any physical attribute, height has the LEAST to do with casting someone. When watching a film you could never tell the height of any given actor unless they were either extremely short or extremely tall. That and the fact that the stature for most comic book characters is exaggerated anyway. Most of them are very tall and over muscled. So to realistically cast someone you would go a little shorter and a little less muscled as few people in the real world have that sort of over exaggerated stature, even fewer would look like the character being cast, and fewer still would have any real acting ability.

So yeah, basing a casting decision on height isn't a smart move. Hell, Hugh Jackman is a whopping 1 foot taller than wolverine and even that wasn't too much of a distraction.

Jim Caviezel with his hair badly bleached blonde.

If a Captain American film had been made 5-10 years ago, Damon would've been perfect. Now he is probably to old for what is likely to an origin film.

I don't understand all this love for Caviezel. He's not a great actor. And past his prime now.

I wouldnt mind Damon. He has star power and he kicks ass. If he isnt cast as Kirk, I wouldnt mind him in this.

Cena is too ridiculous. The actor needs to look thin at first before the transformation. Cenas too beefed up on roids to pull it off.

Besides no one would take this movie seriously with him in it.

And Caviezels wrong for this role on many levels.

Caviezel would be better as Tony Stark. But that's moot now.

Damon is shorter and less built than Rogers, but anyhow if you don't get anyone else, he's a good pick.

Cena looks alot more like Captain America than Matt Damon, but I doubt Cena can carry an epic blockbuster.

It'd have to be a special Captain America movie for John Cena to star. Damon's too old.

I'm surprised no one has brought this name into the mix: What about Eric Dane as Captain America?

As long as Cena can polish his acting. He's build and look. Rock is now a major hollywood player so I wouldn't dismiss Cena just because he's a wrestler

If not then i say Michael Gambon.

I can't believe people are seriously considering the idea of John Cena as Cap.
