If it weren't for Alex Ross, none of us would even have thought any of this would be possible.
He single-handedly gave all of our daydreams and fan hopes a reality that we've all wanted since we were kids. He did what we've all wanted to do for a very long time. He also turned the American Graphic Novel into a true art form and not just a collection of comic books.

In fact I even think the Rock would be good at playing the part of a boy trapped in a he-man's body. After seeing him on SNL and even in the otherwise atrocious movie, Be Cool (for which he was the best part), I see his over the top humor would be great for Captain Marvel

I have my own ideas but just curious to know what the consensus would be.
For a Kingdom come I'd say Vincent Di'Nofero
For today I'd could see either the Chief from Battlestar Gallactica or Billy Zane. Maybe Senetor Pertrelli(sp?) from Heroes

D'nofrio is along the lines I am thinking but not exactly. I say use D'Nofrio's twin brother Vince Vaughn. I say Vaughn with the assumption a Justice League movie will be made with Captain Marvel in it. With the cast I am choosing D'nofrio could not work in my story, it would have to be Vaughn. They are both great choices because they have the size to pull off the role of "the strongest and mightiest man in the world — Captain Marvel!" Vaughn as Capt. Marvel could possibly outshine Bale's Batman or Routh's Superman which is something I want done in the Justice League movie.

For doing just a Captain Marvel with no Justice League film connected I say D'nofrio is an excellent choice and Jerry O'Connel a close second.

Mary does turn into an older version of herself, though not as old as Billy/Marvel. Freddy is the only one who stays the same age.

Watch "Be Cool", the Rock plays corny and funny actually very well. So actually I would say yes...absolutely...the Rock's strength in this role is his ability to do something with a degree of levity and camp.

The best argument against the Rock is the argument for how good a job he'd do as Black Adam, which he would.
