Me i think there is only one actor that can play the part. He is known for his southern accent, but ive seen him do russian and once english...

Thats right Robert Knepper!

I bring this up in this forum and not the x-men sequels because i think that the character of Nathaniel Essex is a character they have included probably as cameo in X-Men Origins Wolverine... i know they have been trying to introduce him since x2.

and I'm sure they'll screw this character up too. I really can't put into words how much I hate Fox.

hahahah .... your all wrong LOL

Na honestly i was once a big fan of Gary Oldmen playing Mr Sinister. But ive seen him act, in everything. And i realised that Mr Sinister has that playful demented but slightly psychotic character that you need to represent with being ruthless. Gary Oldmen i realised isnt taintable enough to play that sinister a character. It wasnt till i saw Robert Knepper playing other parts and finding out his southern accent inst his real accent.

So Knepper is perfect.

As for Colm Feore i dont know who he is

have you watched True Romance? Gary Oldman's character in that movie is pretty out there. I wouldn't have even known it was him if I hadn't read an article about it before I watched it.

Yes i watched True Romance.... No i didnt think his character in that was Sinister worthy

oh yeah, no I didn't mean it was Sinister worthy. I was just saying it was a good one.

VelvetOnion... I have to say that Oldman is one of the best actors... EVER...

Could he play Sinister??? And them some. Watch his characters in the 5th element, then The Professional to see some real "sinister" performances. Then watch Lost in Space, True Romance (as mentioned) and Romeo Is Bleeding to see some very wide range.

That said, I still like Colm Feore (the main villain in the Chronicles of Riddick, he had a recurring character on 24, and did a bunch of well-played supporting roles). His Chronicles of Riddick performance is what sells me for Sinister.

I have watched all of those performances and could add more but non of them i would say is Mr Sinister worthy... The closes actually in my opinion to Sinister was probably in Fifth Element as Zorg... Here is my run down.

Fifth Element - his character was currupted by "Him" the darkness that was heading towards the earth. In comparrision to sinister who you could argue isnt this what Sinister did with Apocalpyse well... No. First off Sinister used Apocalpyse, he did not fear him like Zorg feared that darkness.

Leon The Professional - Personally again another one of my favorite films staring Gary Oldmen, but to me he played a very steroe typical currupt police officer. His character in this was a wreckless drug taker which means he took risks... Sinister is more reserved and doesnt take risks.

Lost In Space - although he played a Doctor, he was also a weakling, he was weak minded and didnt see the betral of the people he worked for, yes he is smart but not sinister smart. i mean yeah he became that creature but still that was by fault not by his own means. If you were to state sinister as chess his peace would usually be the queen where as Gary Oldmens character in Lost in space was a Pawn....

True Romance and Romeo Is Bleeding - nothing like Sinister i couldnt make the connection there.

Lets see what else?

Harry Potter - his character in that is lead to believe he is a maniac, someone who would take risks but again Sinister doesnt have any effection for people. He wouldnt commit the things he do for the side of good, hes just pure sinister. Self in duldgent so no comparrision

Hannible - Oldmen was just a twisted gone insain through isolation and bitter man who was paralized and seeking revenge... Again sinisters intent is self indulgent, he doesnt take revenge. he is usually the instigator and never looks back.

Bram Stokers Dracula - Creepy Oldmen played Dracula... now of all the movies oldmen has been in this is near to what i would of said is near sinister, someone who renounces his own faith, becomes immortal... but thats it, Dracula again wants revenge even after all this time but all his enemies are dead so he takes it out on whoever he can. Elizabeth he saw his deceased wife Elizabetha but again... Sinister - sinister intent, never look back at revenge...

So to summerize... NO YOU HAVENT CONVINCED ME... LOL

But this then brings me to Robert Knepper and the three roles ive seen him in that would make him perfect for this character.

Prison Break - T-Bag - as this character he portrays a guy who only thinks of himself, someone who is living the moment as and when it happens and doesnt think about tomorrow. When he does something it is always for self gain. And he will go to any length and i mean any length no matter how bizzare, insain, sick or dirty he will go there to achieve what he wants. - That is sinister, if T-Bag was a doctor from england think about it, T-Bag would tie a mutant to a table and inject it with chemicals to see if it worked, T-Bag would use his science for his own gain... But thats not all, T-Bag is smart, but in a sense of street smart. He isnt stuck in his world, he knows how all worlds work, hes found the connections and knows when people would try to stab him in the back and he will go about any means to make sure there is no risk that will stop him. I could talk more about how right he is as T-Bag but lets move on...

Hitman - Yuri - Brilliant performance. What really attracted my attention to why the way Yuri worked. He was someone who knew the situation and knew what was going to happen. However the best part, the bit that you really saw him as sinister believe it or not was during the bathtube torture scene, he has to make the call or loose his life, Now sinister is rarely trapped in a situation where he has to talk his way out. But if he did, he would side with the enermy to save his own skin. This reminded me of Sinisters relationship with Apocalypse, yeah he saved him but he would stab him in the back.

On to

Transporter 3 - Johnson - now this is a real treat to see Knepper in his normal accent, believe it or not he doesnt have a natural southern accent. His normal voice is just a typical northern american accent. Typical hollywood style. But i watched on youtube some of the other roles he has done and he is a master of voices, you find a video of him speaking with british accent and you'll know that this is sinister. But back to Transporter, He plays Johnson and like all his characters he plays the bad guy, but unlike T-bag or Urich he is just a regular guy. And this guy is involved with a company that has evil intent, he is there just to settle the deal and he will do anything to settle it. Again this shows that he can play a character who can organise a situation, a plan-ster someone with a plan.

So as you can see Knepper i have only seen him in three things plus youtube vides of his other roles. check them out He not only looks like Sinister, HE IS SINITER.

Just because those characters weren't like Sinister doesn't mean he couldn't play him. It's called range. but I actually would be very happy with every actor named in this thread, I think they could all be very good Sinisters.

No dont get me wrong, i like Gary Oldmen and he does have a range... but he has a habit of playing a character that is a hero who has been delt a bad set of cards... Not once have i seen him play a character that is purely twisted mind that sinister has... i question if he could pull that off.

HOWEVER i think Gary Oldmen should belong in the marvel universe but there is another character i think he would be great at... and he belongs in the x-men universe... The High Evolutionary? come on that would be great. think of the contrast...

Robert Knepper - as Nathaniel Essex, is given immortality by Apocalpyse, however his sinister experiments make him a wanted criminal so he changes his identity and discovers a new evolution specialist Dr.Wyndham - played by Gary Oldmen, who is someone who wants research evolution but lacks certain knowledge that Nathaniel Essex has, so Essex becomes Dr.Wyndhams assistant and starts to currupt his mind into looking darker into his experiments. Thus Essex births The High Evolutionary. However The High Evolutionary rejects sociaty and goes into seclusion, this is where he meets Magneto who has just left his children near by in the small city of wondergor. He again manipulates The High Evolutionary into thinking of a mutant based world of which makes him start work on a device that would change a human into a mutant... A few years later Magneto returns to wondergor and takes his device to be used in x-men the movie....

Yes that would fit, that would fit perfectly...

Knepper is a great choice, but I wouldn't object to his Prison Break co-star William Fichtner either.

No - William Feltcher would be perfect for a mavel character but not as Sinister...

i think he has Spiderman Villian written all over him, Maybe Morbius?

Sorry in my world actors/actress can only portray one mutant from the marvel universe... Mostly because it adds the question that what if Hannible King from Blade Trinity ever came across Deadpool from X-Men Origins Wolverine... Now Ryan Renolds cant be in both places... I mean the way i look at it is that Mystique was trying to be normal as Joan in Punisher movie... for unknown reasons... but gives me some peace of mind...

VelvetOnion... you provided such a wonderful analysis of how Oldman hasn't played Mr. Sinister yet, so he would not be good for Sinister... Dude, are you f--king kidding me???

The point (that you seem to be missing... perhaps willfully, because you really like Kneeper fo the role) is to look at Oldman's performances and see that he can play ANY DAMN THING, and knock it out of the park. He is not a type-cast actor... he is not limited to what he has already done... He is not someone who is just good at X.

Anyway... we all have opinions... Hell, I think that Knepper, Robert Patrick, Oldman or Feore would be solid as Sinister. But since none of them have actually played Mr. Sinister, I just can't see any of them in that role. It has to be someone else. [/SNARK]

Oh no dont get me wrong, i know Oldmen hasnt played sinister yet so i cant comment on if he would be bad...

But i am a big oldmen fan, and i have watched numerous movies all different generes with him in it playing all different characters. He is a good character performer but the one thing i dont see in him a quality that is truely a sinister intent. from what ive seen over the roles he has played he majoritly is picked because he usually plays a hero taken the wrong path or used that makes him put into the that catergory. Its what he is known for...

I could argue that you are very much Pro-Oldman and you believe that if given any role he would knock it out of the park... maybe, but statistics give a better example of what roles Oldmen is capable of and it is that of which other directors use when they are casting such actors/actresses in future roles. I ask you how do you know that if Oldman was given the role of Sinister he could be awrful at it?

again dont get me wrong and i appreaciate other peoples opinion, im not fixed on Knepper playing the part but at present out of every actor ive seen. I truely believe Knepper could pull this off and be a memorable performance of which would rivial Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Until another actor can beat Knepper at this or convince me otherwise im gonna be hear to defend him.

But this topic is generally for everyone to think who would be great cast as Mr Sinister... and discuss what others think of each actor.

I think also i am a big fan of the x-men universe and alot of people seem to have only based there knowledge of x-men via the animated series back in the 90's or have a vague knowledge from recent comic books, Ive been an x-men fan for nearly 20 years. In all medias considered myself an expert. But when it comes to the movies i always feel people just stock pile actors to one character yet there are several others and great ones i might ad that the actor could nail... Like as i said about The High Evolutionary. Oldmen would be perfect for that... Read up on him... google the character. Tell me what you think.

I have been reading X-Men since 1991... and Marvel overall for longer than that. I am full aware of who the High Evolutionary is and I agree with you. I just want to point out that I am not basing my ideas around Sinister based on the animated series.

Anyway... I do hope that we get to see more villains than just Magneto (like Sinister)... and more X-Men character development than just Wolverine (with Sinister involved, we would hopefully get a decent plot involving Cyclops).

You know i have an excellent idea to bring Mojo to the screen... yes you heard me but the genre would be changed quiet alot.
