With the critic reviews for BVS absolutely dismal, and fan/audiance reviews better but not great. I feel Zack Snyder has run out of chances to prove he can direct these DCEU movies. And I think there is a also a good chance he's going to get sacked by WB after this movie. But all hope is potentially not lost, I think a great director could salvage the JL franchise, and renew hope for fans.

My question is who should it be? I also want this to be a serious discussion, so try to pick people who aren't in the middle or starting projects of there own at the moment.

My dream pick, George Miller
My more realistic pick, Ben Affleck

GEORGE MILLER . I think he is a realistic pick. I think he is a producer for the upcoming JL film.

Like other posters have said
The biggest con about George miller is that I'm not sure he would say yes. I think after Fury Road he's been a little wish/washy over whether he would do another Mad Max movie or big budget movie. The guy's 70 and I think Fury road took a lot out of him.

Anyone that knows how to make a good character driven ensemble film.

I wonder if WB will legitimately replace a director mere weeks away from production.

If I had to pick a current DC director to take over Out of Ayer, Affleck, Jenkins, and Wan I'd say James Wan would be the best candidate for taking JL. His horror movies have been met with pretty good reception, and he directed a large ensemble movie. And he managed to get through the death of Paul Walker situation while still making a really good movie.

Also based off of FF7 he's got no aversion to a fun tone. The movie gets a little to over the top and ridiculous for it to be the exact same tone as JL, but I think Snyder went overboard on dark/grittyness.

FURIOUS 7 was pretty fun and it was colourful. I mean the tone was consistent as it's prequels.. and i found a lot of the humour funny. The logic less things were cool to see but it would be cool to see what he will do when there are 7 heroes with super powers

I mean edgar wright quitting didn't damage the film. so why not.. I think Snyder's planning will be there but it could be another directors take on the characters and Terrio's script

According to the Drew McWeeny article WB was nervous about the movie when it was being shown to people for the first time. Apart from that everyone seemed pretty confident in from of the camera and interviews. Even Devin Faraci tweeted out that his sources were saying it was getting good reception a couple days before release. So WB could've known they had another MOS situation on there hands back in February.

I'm just guessing, but I imagine that Edgar Wright and marvel parted ways way before the announcement, and that they already had a new guy aboard with script changes. That is unless WB was aware this movie was going to be a critical dud beforehand, and they already got there guy. But based of Snyder's comments (before the reviews) he seemed really enthusiastic about JL.

Saw BVS yesterday and boy oh boy as much as I tried to enjoy it, the sloppy editing and @#!%ing Zack Snyder's wannabe Nolan making was ridiculous and not working for me.
Although I liked every single idea- especially of the flash appearing in it and the cameos of JL. WW reading an email, when we saw bruce opening it before was stupid. They could've just had him open it then and there. WW should've just reacted to her own picture then that was that..
EMAILS in movies are stupid who thought of this like seriously!
I actually want WB to fire this guy immediately. I expected more and I did not hate BvS it was an OKAY movie, I would give it a 7-8/10 as I enjoyed it more than AoU which was an overrated pile of garbage.

They just need to get this off the board if WB wants to do well these movies, I mean otherwise they are just pulling the new TMNT thing where they don't care because they know its going to make money even if it's trash. I don't want to see DC movies being like the Transformers/TMNT movies! OH GAWD...

George Miller would be cool. Christopher McQuarrie would be cool. I like how his Mission Impossible turned out. Doug Limon maybe, Edge of Tomorrow was good. Neil Blomkamp as long as he doesn't write. Joseph Kosinski did such a great job patching a bunch of recent sci-fi movies together and calling it a "unique" sci-fi movie with Oblivion maybe he'd be better at patching some source material together and calling it an adaptation.

I'd rather keep George Miller out of superhero stuff. He's got better things to work on.

I wonder when we would get a hypothetical announcement of Snyder's departure/his replacement by?

Not for a second do believe that Snyder will be taken off Justice League. But if did happen I would hope WB would try to get Matt Reeves before Fox gets him for another Apes sequel.
