When it comes wanting to get an accurate review before watching a movie, buying a video game or book who's reviews are more valuable or useful. Also tell why they are most valuable and useful. If you all notice in Rotten Tomatoes there is always a HUGE gap between users and critics alike. Who's reviews are most useful to you and why?

I personally find a fan/user's reviews more valuable since they are the most likely to understand or appreciate the material more than some critic who either doesn't care about the material or is just plain biased towards that genre. What do you guys think?

The Fans/users, because their opinions are always closer to my opinions than the critics.

At the end though, I could give a rat's ass what anybody says but me. :p

Neither. Heres why. You cant trust them. With critics in the case of a comic book movie or adapted work the chances of them actually having read the source material or understand it is slim, so they either give it a good review to a movie that doesnt stick to the source material or a bad one because they didnt know what the hell they were talking about. Fans and users you cant trust becasue of the fanboy mentality. Just go to the the SR and X3 forums and read what some people sya about their movies. And then the detractors people that hate the movie id say a large marrjority just hate it because everyone else likes it. Like an emo kid making fun of rap.

Those are good points, but what if you HAVEN'T seen the movie and don't want to risk spending $10 bucks on a movie you didn't like? How would you go about finding out if it was good or not without seeing it yourself first? Who's opinion would you trust the most about a movie you're thinking of seeing?

I have to agree with Darth.

A lot of folks I came upon hated SM2, I didn't let it stop me from seeing it but it did effect me and pissed me off. The people that did like it have no history behind the comic, I think one of my female friends like it for the romance and a guy for the action. I'm not sure why the other folks didn't like it, I'm sure I zoned them out.

Professional critics, yeah no way will I allow them to sway my viewing pleasures. I'm sure some are offered a bribe here and there, I don't feel as if your always getting an unbiased review.

Y'know, that's when torrents becomes REALLY useful. :o

Other than that, I think Darthphere makes a good poiint.

'none i will review it myself'... that makes no sense whatsoever. You cant review a movie before you see it, thats impossible. The correct option would be 'I dont care for reviews'

Btw I care for critics more, usually I share the same opinion with them because fans will be positive about a movie usually no matter what...and they will give it extra points(or stars) when it doesnt deserve it.

How the hell dos it make no sense when I would rather see the Movie myself first then come up with my own opinions

You need to read posts more carefully :o

Critics will tell you if they think a movie is good.

Fans will tell you if they enjoyed the movie.

Film critics understand movies infinetly more than the typical fan (except film fans, like some of the dudes on Hype like Kevin Rogele). Fans, and the general public, just want to enjoy a film. If they don't, it's listed as a bad movie.

You are not thinking straight... listen the poll says whos reviews are more valuble...he means whos review is more valuable before seeing a film.Your review cant be more valuable before seeing a film because you havent seen it yet!!
If they change it to "none..I dont care about user reviews or critics reviews...I go to check out the film myself' than it would make sense...but that option makes no sense

and I am reading the post carefully

I wish we had a more than one choice option. I said both but when it comes down to it I'll review it for myself. I do like to read both critic and fan reactions to certain films before I go see, yet I will always make up my own mind and try not to let either sway me. Some movies I wont even bother reading anyones options before cause I know I want to see it no matter what. I guess when it comes down to it, it really depends on the movie.

Both. If you look at the combined ratings from both critics and ordinary people, you can generally get a pretty good gauge pn the quality of a film.

I don't trust anyone when it comes to movie reviews, but I'll take a critic over an average movie goer.

I dont really take notice of anyones advice, cept for people i know

It depends which crititc. I tend to agree with Roger Ebert. Most of the time, he is good at deliniating between a good movie and a fun movie, and various things in between. Usually, you either have someone who, like the average moviegoer, says it's an amazing movie because they enjoy it, or someone who ****s on it if it isn't Citizen Kane.

Most of the time, though, I'll go with people who saw it that I know (and that includes on these boards). I don't really take into regard user critiques and the like on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.

niether..the only person who will decide if you like the movie is yourself.

Neither. Fanboys are way too nitpicky for my liking. And critic can often be very harsh on certain genres of film. So I normally go with my friends and familys opinion. But in the end it's me that decides if i love a film or not

If Spider-man proved anything, it's that you can't trust either. That movie was garbage and it was praised by critics and fans. :down

LOL! I wouldnt call them garbage but theyre not as good as they make them to be.

I agree, and that's a great example.

I don't rely on others to determine quality or whether I should see something or not, I can decide that for myself.
