Much like the term Super Hero, powers aren't necessarily a must, it's the s**t they get up to.

Guy robbing a bank? Villain. Guy robbing a Bank while dressed as a clown? using anything from a ray gun to a cybernetic suit that enhances his strength? A suit that costs more to make and maintain than any amount he could have possibly stolen from said bank? Super villain.

My top two has always been Lex Luthor and Venom. But every time I mention either of them, people groan

My favourite villain are:

Lex Luthor: He has done so much things in his years of existence that i don't even know where to begin. Lets just say that he's a normal human that can manage to rival the most powerful superhero around

Dr Doom even if most of the times, expecially in his earlier years his plans didn't work.

Aizen: Unlike with Dr.Doom most of his plans worked, he started seeming like the nicest guy you've ever met, then proceeds to fake his death, then he trolled the most powerful soul reapers twice, created an army of latino dead dudes and in the end discovered that he was stronger than them combined, he has plans behind plans, a master strategist and fighter. Even after being defeated he became imortal and will spend the next 2000 years tied to a chair laughing at all it took for his enemies to arrest him (unless he escapes as it's probable).

Darth Vader: Menacing and cool, not to mention iconic, that more can you ask?

The Joker: He has plans, he doesn't have plans, after so many years he's become so popular and iconic, yet he's still as mysterious as he was back then, this guy is possibly the best comic book villain ever.

Bane: In least his first appearance, since then he's been lost, in his first appearance he was what you could ask for a perfect counter foe for Batman, strong, fast and smart. Right now he should be trolling heroes like the Joker and Aizen instead of becoming a steroids abomination.

I think it's something even less specific than that. It's all about style, and to what extent their actions are within societies expectations.

Like, everyone expects and understands criminals who do what they do to make money without having to work inside the system or obtain some kind of instant gratification. No one expects criminals to kidnap a corporate CEO, bluff his company into recalling all of it's food products at a net loss of 21 million dollars with the threat of poisoning the products, have letters mocking the police published in the newspaper, carry out the same threat on another company but actually poison the food this time, all entirely for the lulz, before publicly declaring retirement after the death of their arch enemy. Not because it's any less legal (well, more laws are broken, but you get what I mean), but because it's well outside of our ideas of what motivates a criminal, and goes above and beyond our expectations of a person's base desires. Hence Super Villain.

Also, as an aside, all of the stuff I mentioned was done by a real guy:

They're completelly different kinds of villains, that's like comparing Jack the Ripper to Genghis Khan. And Aizen's awesome, never expected to see such a villain, even if by the end of the war he became a little too overpowered

Anyone not saying The Joker are being hipsters.

Unless they're the zany Armond White, who thinks liking the Joker makes you a hipster nihilist (which is his new favorite term, he says it all the time now). That guy's reviews are always good for a laugh.

Yeah, the Joker came to mind first. I was trying to think of another one I liked as much and I have to say that I've always liked Doctor Octopus a lot. And of course, Lex Luthor.

Let's ignore those, though. Much like when someone asked who my favorite superhero was, I'm going to throw out the Big Three's archnemeses.

So let's go with Magneto.

Well according to some people Cyclops has been one for the last few years.

Magneto for me. It's easy to understand why he is so against humans, and on top of that he's powerful enough to be a big threat without getting to ridiculous levels. He's a guy that can take on an entire team by himself, but he isn't so powerful that it becomes nearly impossible to beat him. I also like how he's intelligent on top of being powerful too. He's just good all around.

Sums it up perfectly. Magneto's a life long favorite for me, hands down the best.

This may be pretty cliche' but I've always though Dr. Doom was an incredible character. Maybe the quintessential supervillian of the entire Marvel universe. I never understood why that guy was relegated mostly to the Fantastic Four. Along with Magneto, Doom should be a threat that requires the likes of even the Avengers to combat.

Also, I know he's not a "super villain" but I've never hated a character before as much as I hated the Governor. That b****** deserved a much harsher death.

Agreed. I also found a lot of the reasoning behind his actions just. Which makes me think I'm on a path to being a super villain :oldrazz:

As for other villains I always loved Doctor Octopus, The Riddler, and The Joker of course.

Also Captain Cold is a villain that I bumped up to my top 5 in the past 5 years or so.

Who are some of y'all's favorite underrated villains? For me one is Killmonger from the Black Panther comics. The guy could easily be a huge villain if Marvel expanded him a bit. He's basically T'Challa's Bane well before Bane even existed. He's an ass kicker that's smart at the same time. I'd love it if he went up against Iron Man or Cap. I think he'd fit them well.
