Quite simple really, get Drew Struzan to do your poster and you'll win it every time. Utter Genius who effectively defined my childhood with his art work.
 
I’m sure many film directors want to get Struzan but he’s not really doing them anymore. And if he does, it’s usually for something pretty special.

The reason he doesn’t do them anymore is because he’ll design posters and then the studios will say no one wants to see a movie with that poster (Hellboy 1,2, Pans Labyrinth to name a few). Which is insane but focus testing is a big thing when it comes to studios and movies they’ve invested millions in and want to make that money back.
 
I guess all you really need for a teaser poster is a familiar logo and you're straight.
