Why do people... mainly teens... cut themselves?

apparently to let out pain. there is a kid in my class whos entire left arm is scarred.

Emotional suffering, trying to feel pain.

Because if they cut other people, they'll go to jail.

1. To feel something.
2. To release tension.
3. Because they "deserve" it.
4. Sexual experimentation.
5. It takes his/her mind off other problems.
6. It's a conversation starter.
7. Hurting him/herself is better than hurting someone else.
8. To see how much pain he or she can take.

Of those eight, which describes you?

Why do people... mainly teens... cut themselves?

There are many reasons, the three main ones being, a resolution to emotional detachment (a common symptom of depression), to have some level of control (this is most common in children who come from a broken home or children who are being abused) or as a form of penance (common in the previous three situations).

Because girls like a man with a scar damnit ...."yup...i got those scars when i was in a knife fight with kubla khan"

I hate people who cut themselves, so point less and stupid.

One explaination I've heard is that the pain releases endorphines that creates a high.

everyone ive met that cuts themselves has been seriously confused and socially awkward. i dont see the point. my friend ray stuck safety pins through his arms once when his gf broke up with him. he told me he wanted to feel so i ***** slapped him (open handed slap with back of hand) and he got pissed and said it hurt....but he didnt seem to mind the pins in his arm..... freaks..... i still love him though cuz he makes me feel a million times better than myself lol

It's not to "let out pain" it's to be in control of the pain.

You're only cool if you PEE YOUR PANTS

You're only emo if you CUT YOUR WRISTS

:D

im emo and I dont cut myself!
technically, you're ''scene'' then. Yeah, theres a name for it. Ive been called a scene kid cuz I like the emo hair(and i have kind of emoish looking hair) and I wear tight jeans(which is actually the new ''metal'' style, not really emo, emo kids just take that look)

It gives you the illusion of control.

Dead on.

There's a combination of physiological, social and psychological factors that lead a person to cut themselves, and these are all spot-on posts. It's a highly complex and deeply-rooted issue that can even become an addiction.

Anybody who says that cutting is simply a cry for help is making an argument from ignorance. That's not to say that a desire for attention doesn't play a role, but the role it does play is minimal at best (I used to hold the same opinion, however, so please don't assume I'm trying to be insulting).

God no. I prefer cutters to Scientologists if that means anything to you.:cwink:
