Why does The karate kid III get such crappy ratings

Probably because it's not good.

I just finished watching it on ITV. It kinda sucks compared to the first.

its not as good as the first, but its as good if not a little better than the second, and yeah the villain was great.

A movie like Titanic is just as formulaic and dumb yet that rubbish is deemed "good".

Ah yes, the tired old "kick around Titanic to make my point" cliche. :whatever:
I'm suprised you didn't drag the prequels or Spidey 3 into your argument.

Iron Man is routine, Transformers was routine, every flippin' blockbuster is pretty much routine. Routine does not have to mean incompetent to the point of inducing brain damage.

That is why Karate Kid III gets crappy ratings.

But it was better than the Next Karate Kid, so you can have that victory.

Someone put a stick up your rear end?
What's so incompetent about it in comparison to Titanic?

The level of talent and artistry behind Titanic's craft services table exceeds the entire creative team behind Karate Kid III.

Karate Kid 3 was a slapdash piece of hackwork which had a tired script that was nothing but a lame retread of the first film. There was not a single ounce of wit, cleverness or inspiration in it. It was a cynical cash grab aimed at 8-11 year olds who lacked the discerning taste to realize a condescending piece of junk when they see it.

Titanic, whatever you may think of it, was the work of top-notch artists working to the extent of their abilities to create a unique reinterpretation of the classical Hollywood epic. Yes, the script is melodramatic and less than subtle. That's the point. It was a brilliant creation of modern technology and old school storytelling. But yes, I realize that nowadays its cool to hate on it for being too popular and "lame".

The third one's actually pretty decent. They continue to push the Miyagi/Daniel relationship further when they could've just as easily kept it the same. It's just not really any fun, it's too threatening.

I have to defend Karate Kid III. Although it is essentially a rehash of the original, and contains some really laughable plot elements (why do two grown men devote their lives to destroying a teenager who won a karate tournament?), it's quite dramatic.

It also has better villains than most action movies. Terrry Silver is a really sly, sinister bad guy, tempting Daniel to the Dark Side and away from Miyagi. The other bad guy, John Kreese is just a lunatic bad bastard who you wouldn't want to be within ten miles of.

The scene where they reveal to Daniel that he's a fly caught in their web is great, and the scene where Miyagi confronts them is, truly, a great confrontation. I have to post this scene because is really is a tense, exciting scene. Watch.

I wasn't aware that any of the Karate Kid movies were any good let alone the third, I don't believe ITV showed them all over the last 3 weeks.

It was on yesterday on ITV from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

saving a god damn bonzai tree is not exactly my idea of a good movie!

This is a decent, wholesome movie, with a great bad guy, why do the critics and certain people hate it so much?

Karate Kid 3, wholesome?!?! The movie has a horrible spirit, Daniel's a prick for at least half the movie, the villians are garbage and horribly mean spirited @$$holes and for what so they can win a karate tournament. The movie has no heart whatsoever.

The first was cool and clever they way Miyagi taught Daniel karate with the chores. Also a movie about the new kid in town standing up to bullies and winning their respect by the end.

The second I liked because of the culture and learning more about Miyagi's background.

The third just felt like garbage.

its a shame that KK3 and The Next Karate Kid were mediocre, at best. I would've looked forward to watching KK5. but, it wouldn't be the same without Pat Morita.

unfortunately, thats the only scene I liked from KK3.

Here, here! The first film is a really great film. Perhaps the best of the Rocky copycats around (Even by the same director!). It was effective because it was based around character development.

I actually thought the second film sucked pretty bad. A sad cash-in, that lost the dramatic power and upped the aggression and violence. The final battle is such a non-event that its a snoozer.

The third one takes the notion of character and roundhouses it right off the screen. The assorted actors are now playing "types" instead of living, breathing individuals. Just a mean-spirited, crass junkfest. And boy, that banzai tree stuff was riveting... :sleepy:

He's suppose to be, the tree is suppose to be his soul or some crap, that's why it gets snapped and close to death and then healed, they are trying to taint him by turning him to the "dark side", they are trying to take goodness away before breaking him in front of everyone.

The villains kick ass. Mr Miyagi doesn't want to push him, and Daniel ultimately makes the choice to be a good guy, that's when Mr Miyagi saves his ass and decides to train him. It's not as bad as people make out, it's better than II. It was certainty more enjoyable than Titanic.

^^^^That's my favourite scene from the movie - that and the bit were you see just how much Silver's got under Daniel's skin when Daniel snaps and breaks the guys nose in the club.

Thomas Ian Griffith was fantastic in KKIII; the guy who played Barnes was a good bad guy too, and Martin Kove as Kreese is always great.

But I was so dissapointed that the tournament and climatic fight between Daniel and Barnes at the end wasnt more substantial.

I loved the first movie but I haven't gotten around to the others and don't really have an urge to.
