I honestly feel that Spider-Man has the greatest costume in comics. Here are my reasons in no particular order.
1. Perfect concealment. As a superhero who's trying to protect his identity, you can't go wrong here. No fingerprints are left anywhere. His hair, nose, mouth and even his eyes are completely covered. There could be a black guy or an Asian guy under there for all you know.
2. Supports his theme perfectly. Some characters' outfits tell you nothing about them. The spider motif is clear throughout here. A spider symbol on the front and back, webs on the face, webs on the chest-this is just the right level of theatricality and keeping with the name.
3. Has an air of mystery. In this case I'm referring to the hidden goodies like his web shooters and utility belt. How many times has somebody subdued Batman and the first thing they do is go for his belt? It's prominent, it's brightly colored, it's begging for attention. By contrast a casual observer wouldn't even know that Spidey is wearing one. I tend to think Ditko was trying to create the illusion that the webbing might be organic, keeping its source out of view.
4. No trunks. I really hate trunks.
5. Great use of color. Many costume designs are just solid from top to bottom, apart from the symbol and maybe the gloves and boots. I think this is what makes some people think the trunks are necessary to break up the color scheme. Here it's nicely distributed, with the web markings confined to the red areas. The red and the blue stand out in their own way, and no additional colors are employed that might make the uniform gaudy.
6. Distinctive through and through. If all you could see was Spider-Man's arm, you'd know it was his arm. If you look at his foot you know it's his foot.
All in all this is an intelligent design, which most characters don't even come close to.

Fantastic post, Chris. :spidey::up:

That was great

I miss the underarm webbing though. It doesn't have to be big, but it was one of the things I loved from the classic Spider-Man

Yuck. Good riddance. I hated it.

The only way I would take it is if it's so small you can barely see it. That's it.

I agree with you. A unique touch that added theatricality without needless bulk or something that would interfere with his movement.

Not only that, but he used it to form a glider in Amazing Spider-Man #8, similar to this

THere's another reason I forgot to mention; Spidey is the ONLY hero who I feel can plausibly wear his costume underneath his tights, with no cumbersome boots or bulky accessories to worry about.

Simply put

An even better example. Plus minimizing it offsets the appearance that he has wings like Jessica.

I loved the series but not a fan of the art style in general. The action and writing made up for it, though.

The art style, to me, was something I was able to look past after the first episode because of the writing and the stories and the action all put that one little nitpick behind. TSSM's suit, by far, is the most true suit of Spidey that I have seen either in films, video games or other shows on television because I always like Spidey to have these two things: web under the arms and big eyes. TSSM had both of those which makes me a huge fan of the short-lived series.

What I love is the eyes. You can do so many things with his eyes, he could say nothing and you know what he's thinking without seeing his facial structures. Not only that, but it isn't a domino mask lol

Lol it's easier to rip off a domino mask than tucked in fabric. That's another thing, he secures the mask so it won't come off too easily whereas a domino mask, you're screwed lol

It's a good costume, no doubt, but I'll always like Superman's better. Spidey's has too many lines on it.
