Seriously, Why is it so slow? I have highspeed internet connection. I have no problems with other sites but it takes me anywhere from 15 mins to a half hour just to get to a point where I can post something. And this is a everyday thing that's been going on for months now.

I don't know if it's a matter of maintenance or a problem with the server but something really needs to be done about it.

Am I the only one having problems with Hype being slow? Is anything being done to fix the problem?

Please mods, Don't just close this and ignore the problem. I seriously would like an answer.

Its always been slow, they have always had this problem, but never got around to really fixing it, just fixing it for a few weeks then its back. And since Malice isnt on as often its even worse :)

Of course not. The Hype has been slow since 2008 when the smallest update on The Dark Knight resulted in a million fanboys showing up to discuss it.

Get rid of sigs, get rid of avatars, cut off threads at 5000, get rid of BS forums nobody cares about (***cough***non-spoiler sections***cough***), get rid of old threads that are 3+ years old, get rid of friends lists and vistor messages, ban people if they use a four letter word (even if it is cencored) or ban them for simply being dumbasses, get the latest upgrade for your server, and buy more bandwidth. If SHH can't afford it and this is the top speed the site can go, then we are completely ass ****ed in 2011 with all the movies out next year. It will be 2015 by the time we upload the Green Lantern teaser trailer thread... no joke.

SHH should merge with CS. Combine the two servers. It's not like CS is using theirs.

traffic has a lot to do with it i'd imagine

Fat Tonie, you have an avatar and a sig, are you willing to start by removing yours? Let's see if that helps a while. If you delete threads that are 3+years old, people lose post counts, of which many will not be happy about. we did a purge a couple years back and it really didn't make that much of a difference.

i don't work on the back end of the site, but i'd imagine it's a server/bandwidth issue. To buy more bandwidth costs money, which would probably mean even more ads then there are already, and some are really a nuisance. some are causing my antivirus to perk up and say this site is a threat sometimes.

They're trying to come up with solutions and figure out things they can do to help with the lag so all we can do is be patient. The issue isn't being ignored by any means.

Yeah, in 2007 before Spider-Man 3 was released. It didn't last long because of the darn TDK fanboys.

Just because.

Yes, we are actively working on this problem and we hope to have a solution soon.

We got one notable movie coming out this year. I don't remember 09 being as bad as far as the lag, maybe it was, but other than a few highlights this will be another dog summer unlike 2007/2008. Maybe it's just the daily flood of crazy Bat fans but even then, viewer count is low in forums that are inactive in terms of new developments. Unless the traffic at the home page also factors in; I wouldn't know because I hardly ever go there. But lately it's been the worst I can remember. I typed a post that was a couple of paragraphs (fairly lengthy), copied it (which I have been doing with every post for the past year and a half), and then I hit a database error. After ten minutes I come back to paste it, but I had copied another link to redirect in the meanwhile and lost the post. Either that or a double post. Not anything new for anyone I am sure, but yeah. And as far as post counts, who the hell cares if they have 1,000 or 10,000 or 20,000? Unless they are gunning for mod ship and you need a certain post count. We can definitely eliminate over 50% of the crap floating around here, but if it does as little as you say, it is what it is.

i really don't know what causes the lag

but i do know if i quote a post with images or gifs i try to remove the ones that aren't relevant to my post so they won't slow the page even more. i dunno if that helps or even matters, but i still do it

It's the traffic. Visit the Misc. Film Section when you get a chance. It's out of control. I know I joke around a lot, but I'm some-what serious when I suggest that SHH and CS should be merged. This is SUPER HERO Hype. So, what's the point of having a misc. film AND a misc. TV section when there's ComingSoon, the site Mirko created specifically for that area of discussion. When people click on Misc. Film and Misc. TV just re-direct them to ComingSoon. And consider the same for the music and book section. If you're running two sites then take advantage of that. CS is practically a ghost town these days. So, dust it off and make it useful again.

Thank you both for giving an answer. It is appeciated.

I'd say the reason we have a Misc. Film Section here at Hype is because this is where everybody is at.

If people wanted to go to CS to talk movies they would go there, There is a reason no one goes to CS, It's because it's boring.

Hype has always been the more active board of the two.

woowoowoo,boomboomboom-I know how you can speed the hype up, woowoowoo delete everything I feel is stoopid and it will move faster.

calm that noise.:whatever: If I felt that way, I'd say delete 85% of the hype since I only lurk/post in at most 15% of the thing.

Its just I have other sandboxes that are larger than this one, some w/ a whole lot more pics- all on Vbulliten, and they move faster than the Hype!. 4 minute load times are nothing sometimes. It may be too late to make changes before Iron Man drops, but I hope the traffic don't cripple this board...I'm kind of partial at this point-even to nutball posters, I might even miss tON....maybe not.:word:

It's good to know other members have ways to work around the post lags..lol it's turning us in to more than adequate editors.

I know yall are workin on it-i just don't want to get fired from the gig for sneakin/waitin for a page of text posts to load between actual work.

Funny how you don't put the celebrity forum in your complaints. That forum is so useless that it makes Sarah Palin look relevant.

There is a reason no one goes to CS, It's because it's boring.

It's boring because no one here is motivated to go. SHH, surprisingly, has a community of members that have good knowledge about movies and TV. It's surprising because this is a superhero site. The two niche groups don't always crossover. But, since going to CS seems redundant they're not motivated. Mirko could motivate them by locking the two forums and telling them to go there. It could backfire but it's worth a try. Atleast do a week trial run. It wouldn't be the first time that SHH members head over to CS. Everytime SHH is shut down due to maintaince, Mirko and the rest of the staff encourage everyone to visit CS. Although that hasn't always been successful since people just go there to complain about how much the site sucks. But...this time it could be different since SHH is still around.

Funny how you don't put the celebrity forum in your complaints.

That's up for debate. Superhero movies attract big celebs, so having a forum for that could be useful.

Except there's threads for celebrities not even in superhero movies. The actor threads in the separate movie forums is enough to cover the celebrities in superhero movies.

So...

With Kick Ass and Iron Man 2 just around the corner, there's only going to be more people visiting SHH. If it's this slow now, I don't know what's going to happen then.
I for one am willing to take a reduction of avatar size or removal of sigs, but I honestly don't think that's nearly enough to fix the problem at this point.

Yeah, this lag is really annoying. Took me 10 minutes just to get to community. Hope they fix this soon. This is the worst i've ever seen it since the days of TDK.

Glad I'm not the only one having this problem. Although it started going slow for me just yesterday, apparently it's been happening to other people before then.

Anyone have any ideal WHEN this will be fixed? It's 5:42 AM as I write this and it took me 20mins just to get to this point from the board home page.:cmad:

I've only been able to access the forums twice in the last three days. I'm in favor of doing whatever it takes. Eliminating avatars, purging old posts, whatever. Post count is meaningless if you can't even get in.

It can't be traffic when there is only one movie coming out. IM is averaging like 30 viewers right now. There are only several other forums (Misc., Batman, Community) that average anywhere from 20-40. Everything else is like ten or less. I just think there is too much junk floating around. Shut down the Hype before May kicks into gear, and clean out 99% of the garbage and the bull **** threads. The non-spoiler sections shouldn't have more than like 4 threads because no one ever goes there. I'll say it again, clean out threads that have been inactive for 9-12 months. It won't hurt to lose some post counts or start a new thread upon the next noteworthy development. Get rid of all the Hottest Celebs, movie/Hype member tournament threads at least until we recover the speed.
