Something that's been bugging me for a while... are there any movies involving a character that is neither thin nor fat, other than Bridget Jones Diary?

I'm just kind of sick of watching films about skinny women, with the occasional fat side character and NOTHING in between... it's like women can only be one or the other. Hot and thin or fat and ugly.

I think even a movie has an outsider for a main character he or she has to look good because that's what the audience want. For example
Easy A, it was clear to me that Emma Stone's character is ten times more attractive than the 'popular girls' in the film.

Is it right? Well, that's why movies are a projections of what we want reality to be like. Because high schools in movies tend to look kinda fun compared to the real thing.

You must not watch a lot of movies...

Sure, most of the big celebrities as far as women go are definitely on the thin or fat side, but there are plenty of women that are in between...

I'm starting to think filmmakers do this on purpose. As if sex sells or something.

I'm not saying that every movie should have an unattractive or slighty overweight person in the main role.

I just don't get why we can't have the main characters friend be a normal body size, instead of being the token fat girl or another hot skinny girl.

Can you suggest some for me?

I also think its the culture of Hollywood which has a very black and white view of what's pretty, skinny, normal, etc.

They rely on specifix archetypes for actors which can be a problem if you want to portray an average everyday person.

So my answer is that Holywood has a limited perception on the 'real'. Usually you'll find 'averge' body types for actors in indies.

Hollywood's lack of good roles for women is embarrassing. It's all entertainment catered to the obnoxious male teenagers. I guess there's Twilight for the obnoxious female teenager, but that's one franchise. The male's have more fecal matter to chew on.

Eh, what chu gone do?

May as well enjoy the best boobs money can buy and fat people falling down.

Who wants to watch a movie about a 140 pound woman?

Well, a porno. :o

I like big butts and I cannot lie.

Honestly, Kate Winslet is one of the few actresses who even gets interesting roles anymore. It's really a trinity of her, Meryl Streep, and Natalie Portman at this point.

As far as there not being interesting roles for women, I think it's because these three are constantly snatching them up.

- Revolutionary Road
- The Reader
- Little Children
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Black Swan
- Closer
- Garden State
- V For Vendetta
- Doubt
- Adaptation

These were all fascinating roles, all snatched by three actresses.

And as far as fat/thin, Kate Winslet has never really seemed fat or thin to me, by Hollywood standards. She's always been in the middle. Not really chubby, but not a stick either. She looks healthy, in other words. Same with Bryce Dallas Howard. :yay:

And as far as hot/ugly, Kate Winslet wasn't looking so hot in The Reader. Those hairy pits gave me the willies. :oldrazz:

It pisses me off most in Chick Flicks.

These are movies deisgned to be relatable to women, designed to make you feel good, right?

And yet every single lead female makes you feel like the reason you can't get happiness like them is because your not a size zero.

Pisses me off even more when anyone in the film who isn't skinny is portrayed as a characature, and the skinny girls are all complaining about their diet, and how fat they are.

Who wants to watch a movie about a 140 pound woman?

Are you joking?

You think a woman weighing 10 stone is too big to be attractive?

:whatever:

Wow, and that's exactly what the problem is.

All I know is that Exhibit A used to be so much hotter than Exhibit B. The difference is at least looking healthy. If you look healthy, that's automatically a turn on for me. If you happen to be a few pounds overweight, I could care less. Beauty is beauty. But being too thin (or too fat) is unhealthy.

Angelina Jolie used to look stunning, but now she went all Skeletor on us. It's really sad to look at her attempting to still be hot and sexy when she's as skinny as she is. I had to look away a few times in Wanted.

The first picture of exhibit B is one of the most genuinly disturbing images I have ever lay eyes on. What the **** happened?

Is this thread not generalized extremes? I don't feel like this point of view is accurate.

THIS. I mean my God, their mindset is still set in the 1920's for crying out loud. Hollywood is racist and sexist as Hell.

Regarding the movie "21":
"The real-life students mostly were Asian-Americans, but 21 whitewashes its cast and disappointingly lumps its only Asian-American actors (Aaron Yoo and Liza Lapira) into one-note designations as the team's kleptomaniac and a slot-playing "loser." They wanted an all white male cast with one Asian girl as a love interest."

She could pull off a lot of the Disney villainesses now, such as Maleficent, or Cruella.
