i think it is silly. it just seems like as long as it did well it will get a sequel. why do you care if it breaks records?

We see the film multiple times because we love it. The record has nothing to do with it.

I didn't see it 3 times to help out its BO earnings. I saw it 3 times because I loved it.

Yea a film like this, if you enjoy it, needs to be seen more than once on the big screen. Sane people don't spend money on stuff they don't like.

oh no. you misread something. i said if the purpose is to help box office numbers. i see some people saying they saw it for that reason.

That's like asking why would a fan care if your team makes the play-offs, or wins the superbowl or world series as long as they played well all season?

I couldn't care less what those people do with their money, it's their money, but I wouldn't. But whatever floats their boat..... If I could afford it, I'd be watching it over and over because it's such a fun film!

this isn't a football game though. beating a record means nothing. being a good film and knowing there will be a sequel is plenty. people get caught up in this crap

people love their bragging rights. And fandom is fandom, whether it be sports or movies or comics.

I want this damn film to go down in history. And I want to see it everyday :l

lol that's so strange because who is there to brag to about superhero films? everyone likes a fun superhero movie.

So you have seen people say they don't like the film, but carried on buying tickets just to help the box office?

You're either lying, or those people are idiots.

I saw this movie twice in less than 24 hours: Midnight showing and opening night. And I plan to see it at AT LEAST two more times. Why? Because I sincerely love this movie, not because I want the box office numbers to break all the records.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the movie broke the record for opening weekend, but even if the movie bombed, I'd still be planning to see this bad boy a few more times in the theater. :)

Not everyone is a fan or every property. There are plenty that choose sides. Just like many are for one sports team or another.

The more it makes, the more Hollywood will try to emulate Whedon's geek-friendly approach to comic book movies.

Also Disney will be happy to give Marvel Studios more creative and financial freedom to expand the Marvel Universe.

i was chatting on yahoo in the avenger articles and yes there were people asking others to watch it again to increase the box office numbers. i found it odd.

and there's that too.

Alot Harry Potter and Nolan fans are pissed right now. lol!

why would potter and nolan fans be pissed though? that is equally dumb. those films did great and got multiple sequels.

i can't quite understand it. i swear i'm trying.

tdk was a pretty substantive movie which doesn't get measured by bo numbers for example

Box office #'s are an easy measure of validation that what you love is loved by others. People tend to crave that validation. Why, I don't know but I do know it's true.

you can't even measure bo correctly anyways cause it doesn't go by ticket count, it goes by amount per ticket so to speak. tickets with 3d imax and such are pretty expensive. you might spend $80 a family on it.

You can still generally deduce that the higher the gross a film gets, the more well liked/loved and popular it is. People naturally want to be in the majority on just about any issue/subject. If they love some pop culture property, it's comforting to know that a majority feels the same way.
