This seems like a loss of insanely good marketing and such. Does anyone happen to know what is slated that weekend? I mean how do you have a movie about Captain America, release it in July, but not Independence Day Weekend?

Thank Paramount and their Bayformers love fest...

transformers 3? that really really depresses me. at least its not twilight.

They need to just put this in the slot and watch Paramount run. I am pretty sure Cap will beat out Xformers. Few care about that franchise now.

A fourth of july release would make too much sense...

How I wish this was true. But unfortunately Transformers 2 had a huge box office intake so people are willing to see those films to see stuff explode. There may be some reduced profits but I'm sure it'll still do really well overall. Captain America is still a risk for the foreign markets. I wouldn't put it against Transformers 3 it if I were Marvel either.

A lot of people were burned by the last Xformers film though. A LOT of people. Cap is a fresh new Marvel film. I'm willing to bet that Paramount would move, if for the sake of not cannibalizing their own craft.

I'll be seeing Transformer without a doubt, but Captain America takes top priority for sure now that Evans got the role.

Hard to believe. Sure critics and old people are burned out, and some of the hard core "No one but G1" might be burnt out, but the fact that the dvd broke records in sales, and that the toy line was yet again the most popular with it's age group begs to differ. Now if I were head a Paramount I would move Cap to July 4th, not only because of the cool gimmik of the patriotic holiday fitting with the hero, but out of the fact that Transformers doesn't need that date to succed. Any day during the summer Transformers 3 will do a killing. Cap needs all the help he can get.

I've been wondering this whole time myself why this isn't scheduled for the 4th. It's gotta be THE BIGGEST no-brainer ,marketing-wise, of this whole project. Stupid Michael Bay:cmad:

Well Paramount is controlling both of these projects, no? So it's up to their marketing department to make the switch. I agree...it's a pretty blatantly obvious marketing ploy. Low hanging fruit....

It's kind of like, not releaseing Friday the 13th, on Friday the 13th. Of course these studios get scared and don't want to do things like that. Look at Halloween for example. They could have made extra bucks by putting it on the day of it's namesake, but no, they put it out in Aug, because of Saw.

Yup, yup! So stoopid.

But we'll see...it's a long ways off and a lot can happen between now and then. What's coming out the first weekend in May? They should move Xformers to that timeframe and really make a killing.

Thor, POTC 4, Hangover 2, Mission Impossible 4

Studios don't always make the best decisions. (Another example would be releasing Narnia's Prince Caspian as a summer movie. Instead of sticking with the successful christmas holiday release. A decision that has thrown the entire franchise into question.)

All the Summer movies are pretty big sequels. Honestly, I think Cap should move to Dec. Tie it in with Pearl Harbor and what started the War for America in the first place.

Why is Cap a hard sell over seas - who doesn't like seeing Nazi's getting the crap kicked out of them? Was Inglorious Basterds a hard sell?

We can pray that something happens to Shia LaBay 3, ala Spider-Man 4, and Cap gets bumped up like Thor.

It's not the Nazi punching part but the part about a super hero wearing the flag of a country that isn't so popular around the world at the moment.

That would be great.

I don't know, that might it put it too close to GL

This is the current Summer 2011 sched:
May 6 - Thor
May 20 - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
May 26 - The Hangover 2
May 27 - Mission: Impossible IV
June 3 - Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom
June 10 - Fast Five
June 17 - Green Lantern
June 24 - Cars 2
July 1 - Transformers 3
July 15 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II
July 22 - The First Avenger: Captain America
July 29 - Cowboys & Aliens

I just realized - literally every movie is a sequel except the 4 CBMs (Thor, GL, CA, and Favs' C&A)

Yea it would have been sweet if it was fouth of july slot. But it was already taken before first avenger was set. All we can hope for the film ot do well and have legs and be a sucess for marvel.

Captain America IS a hard sell overseas, but superhero movies usually are. However, I think people in foreign countries (mine included) will be more curious about this superhero BECAUSE he is representing America.
