:word:Ok, though I loved the new Hulk it doesn't seem like the rest of the public did. It is tanking fast! So if Marvel takes a bath on this movie how will it effect future planned movies? I would not be surprised if we see either CAP or Thor in IM2 and not as a seperate movie. I could be wrong but I do think it is a real possability! This was always my concern that if one movie isn't a success then it could effect all the others. Especially Thor. What do you think?

The only plan I could see this changing is not having a Hulk 2.

Though, I still think it will happen eventually.
Why do you think the public isn't embracing this as much as IM? Do you think Ang Lee is that much of a factor? I personally love this movie. It was more like the comic and world of mouth was pretty good. Is it the competition?

I really think Ang's Hulk poisoned the well.

Also, the lack of early advertisement because of the unfinished CGI hurt Incredible Hulk's penetration in the public.

Further, Norton not promoting the film was another part of a weak advertisement capmaign.

Once again, the video game mixing its own gameplay footage with clips from the movie may have confused some kids about what exactly was being made.

To quote Bruce Wayne, "I certainly hope not."

Not going with a 2nd hulk film would be risky, seeing as how they've already showed the birth of "The Leader". Unless he's gonna be one of the villains in the Avengers flick. Also...did anyone else notice a minor "Thor" presence/tease in this new Hulk flick?

What Thor hint?

As for the original question:

First of all, The Hulk is a successful reboot, no doubt. It may not be at the same level as Iron Man or Batman Begins, but it still was a critical success. I think the possibilities of them making a sequel is more likely than FF3 or Ghost Rider 2.

Damn near all the critics love it, and people who've seen it have loved it too; so why isn't it making more money?

Maybe it's a situation where some don't feel they have to see the movie more than once.

What Thor hint?
I think he means the scene when Hulk throws the rock at the sky when the lightning strikes when he's with Betty.

Actually, it's cuz everybody is buying the bootlegs instead of going to see the movie.

Ang Lee is a factor. A factor that could have been easiliy counterbalanced, but no one took the time to do it.

I loved the Ang Lee movie, btw...

It's not doing as well as IM because the general audience has a much easier time relating to a man in a suit than they do a man that turns into a giant creature. (that's what I hear from people here at the office who don't typically get into super hero movies, but loved IM)

:word:Whats with all the venom? It is a legitimate question!

The Hulk movie didn't bomb for the last time. It's not going to get a sequel but I don't think Marvel was planning one in the first place. ANd the idea that it will stop them from making Thor... is ludicrous. All these guys will get their own movies and be in Avengers.

It just means there won't be a Hulk 2 and if Norton doesn't want to do Avengers, Marvel will just write the character out. Which is too bad, because I really enjoyed TIH quite a bit (even if it ordered on dumb fun, it wasn't insulting) and really was looking forward to seeing Tim Blake Nelson play an evil genius in the sequel.

Oh well.

Well, there's always the DVD sales. Fantastic Four got a sequel, why not TIH?

It cost less and did better business? TIH is on FF2 lines at the b.o. and look at how quick Fox are moving on a FF3.

This movie is almost maxing it's BO potential. It's not like it has the mass appeal of Superman, Spider-Man, Batman and Iron Man. The chicks mainly are biased towards the character and have little interest, if not draged to the cinema. And the chicks make out a big deal of the BO, it also has an effect on families. No matter how great an Hulk-movie, it just is not as tempting for families and chicks.

It did not open as good as 2003 Hulk, but it has better legs and smaller drops and will probably make more then that by a 5-10 millions.

Internationally it looks like it is going to make much more then 2003 Hulk. European Soccer championship is hurting it a little, but not to much.

This seems to be a profit for Marvel, all in all. It will not do anything with their Avengers plan, and I doubt it will have any impact on Hulk II.

"Love" is too strong a word. Most critics and people just liked it. It's a "Nice flick, you should catch it sometime" reaction, not a "OMG that movie was amazing you absolutely HAVE to go see it now!!" one like Iron Man got.
Which is adequate, since I too thought Hulk was good but not great.

And the thunder scene is actually borrowed verbatim from Hulk:Gray and I seem to recall it had nothing to do with Thor whatsoever.

Well, there's always DVD sales. Most of the money made back from movies these days are from DVD sales.

Nope. There will be a Sequel. Batman Begins only made likee 48 million opening weekend and Now were a little under a month Till TDK comes out and look at the Hype for that film

I don't think TIH will affect other Marvel movies (and no TIH is not a bomb; if you want to look for a summer bomb, check under SR and Guru), but I hope Marvel will at least slow down their other movies a bit and make sure that they are taken care of, and not try to stick to their scheduling too much. They are a smaller company, and each project is important, so I don't want them to rush them out and expect that they will become great movies and gross millions in the BO.

Batman Begins also didn't have a 60% drop off its second weekend.

i think it has enough to make at least one sequel and then we'll see from there.

I don't think BB is comparable. As everyone likes to state when BB's BO comes up, it opened on a Wednesday. Had it opened on Friday, not only would it have opened higher, it would have also had a 55%-ish drop for its second weekend (assuming the OW would have been 60 instead of 48).

I really don't see why BB comes up as a comparison, the Wednesday opening makes it hard to compare it to Friday openers.

let's hold on... 4th of July is coming up.
