I think Iron Man has the potential to make that coveted Spider-Man Cash. (800 Million Plus @ B.O.) I mean their cast is stellar and every inch of the production seems to be top notch. I have a good feeling about it, very good.

The problem is that Iron Man doesn't have the recognition that Spidey does or the wealth of Villains to keep a franchise going

i hope he will he needs all the help he can get toerase the stigma of civil war

im pretty sure the mainstream audience doesnt even know what Civil War is, and most of us (who might really REALLY hate iron man) will still want to see the first live action iron man.

but still because he isnt a household name, i think it will be really hard for him to reach spiderman's numbers.

ironman wont be making spidey numbers for a variety of reasons. One reason is,that ironman doesn't have the pop-icon status that spidey has and ironman's stories dont appeal to younger audiences and readers the way spidey does. That being said, the ironman crew have a better cast and crew than the spidey movies and has great potential to be a series of better movies. Because imo the spidey movies, especially sm1 and 2 aren't that great.

I think the franchise will do better than what's expected, I don't think it'll do Spidey numbers but I have faith that it'll be a huge success nonetheless.

perhaps if they go nuts with the mechandising like the spidey movies do.

No other comicbook franchise will be doing Spidey numbers anytime in the forseeable future...

That said; i wish Iron Man all the best.

nah but it could be the next one to out do the succes of the X men films, and be a strong competitor for the Dark Night series sequal next summer

It will be bigger then the Four, bigger then the Hulk, not sure if it can quite reach X 2 numbers right out of the gate...but who knows

Truth. Spidey is easily Marvel's most recognizable character and has huge mainstream popularity. Iron Man just doesn't have that kind of name recognition.

I think it could do numbers like the current Batman franchise and the X-Men films. Maybe higher once the character and franchise are established to the general public. If all turns out well, it may definitely become one of Marvel's heavy hitters (ala Spidey and X-Men). Spider-Man seems to be untouchable, though.

Yeah, it won't be topping SPider-Man but I think it will do very well. Iron Man is a lot more 'grown up' than Spidey and so may put a younger audience off.

Still I hope Iron Man does amazingly well, a cast and a great crew, ILM working on the visual effects (just look what they have done with Transformers) should make this one of the best Marvel movie franchises.

Don't think it will reach SM numbers. But, do think it will top SM like BB did.

I don't know- just sensing very strong Batman Begins vibes- #1 comic book film.

This movie have a great potential, a great cast. It's the hope of the Marvel Movies.

hmmmm....not this one no; the sequel could do 300 million+ IF the first is AMAZING. But the general cieling for this one is 200 million. I see MR N MRS SMITH numbers(50/185).

Very debatable.

I think Iron Man can be the next Blade (at least before the sequels started to suck IMO) a movie that does reasonably well, and is successful with the critics & fans. I don't think Iron Man is a popular enough character to ever have Spiderman levels of success, only Superman or Batman could match that in terms of popularity...

I would love for it to match that movie, but chances are, Marvel will have to settle for levels of performance maxing out at Xmen 2 and 3. Those would would REALLY boost Marvel's bankroll, given all the revenue streams, so it would allow for Marvel to take chances and flesh out other characters.

I'm a huge Iron Man fan and I don't believe he will make Spider Man numbers, I believe it will be a great movie, but, he doesn't have the name recogniztion of Spider Man, Super Man or Batman.
I hope the film does better than Fantastic Four, I believe it will appeal to a more mature audience, than most comic films, I guess will have to wait and see.

Very debatable.

I figure it makes more then 134 Million domestic....more then the Origional Hulk Movie.

I am not sure where The Increadible Hulk will stand, I hope on higher ground closer to Iron Man just for a clarification.

I think Iron Man has the potential to become Marvel's next big film franchise but as its been stated, he dosen't have the same level of reconigtion as Spidey so it may not reach the same level box office-wise. However from what little they let out about the movie, I think most will agree, it certainly looks like one of the most promising comic book films.

I think what will affect it will be how well they draw in the casual movie goer who doesn't read comic books. It's safe to assume that it won't take much to bring in the preexisting fans of the character as well as comic fans in general.

No

1. Unknown to most people outside of Marvel readers
2. It's more of an adult-like movie, casted by older actors
3. Marvel seems slow in barraging the markets with Iron Man stuff
4. The character is basically FUBARed in the comics

I think it could do X-Men numbers.

Yeah, I think it could be the next X-Men, although I do wish it'll get SM's numbers (fat chance tho). But as long the movie is awesome, I'm sure it will make millions and be greenlighted for sequels.

It will do better than the X-men movies but not as good as the Spider-man movies.
