Will recording tv shows in HD instead of SD take up more space on a DVD?

I only have a SD tv signal coming into my house at the moment through my local cable provider & I have been recording all my favorite tv shows onto dvdrw so I could watch them back later but after February 17th the SD tv signal will be switching over to HD so will this change effect how my favorite shows are recorded onto dvd? I can usually record up to 4 shows on 1 dvd depending on the quality I set my player on but will the HD signal cause the disc to use up even more space than it did with the SD signal?

On February 17th tv signals are not going HD, but going digital. So you can keep recording your shows to disc and the size will stay the same.

Thanks for clarifying that. I should have made the question analog tv signal vs digital tv signal recording to begin with & it would have been less confusing to people. Being the tech tard that I am I just assumed that my dvd recorder would start recording every tv show in 720p format onto the dvd On February 17th & it would use up more disc space that way.

As previously stated, the digital transition that's happening next month is not SD-to-HD, but Analog-to-Digital. It's a difference of signal type, not signal resolution.

Furthermore, the ONLY people that will be effected by this are those that are currently getting any TV stations in via antennae. The transition effects the type of signal that your local stations send through the free air. Instead of analog signals now they will be only allowed to transmit over the air in digital. Anyone who gets their cable tv from a cable line that's leading off of a pole into their house will have no difference in their signals from this transition and do not need to worry about getting those digital boxes for their tvs, because your cable company will be doing the digital-to-analog signal conversion for you at their headend.

Also, keep in mind that the signal that is being sent to your dvd burner (and your tv) is always analog. Always. So your recordings will be exactly the same next month as they are now.

:) Hope that helps!
