I'm rereading some of the issues, and Darwyn Cooke's take on the character, and I had forgotten this element of the character. I remember him getting into scraps constantly, but I forgot how often he literally just got beaten up. Think we'll see that in the movie?

If Miller intends to be faithful then he has to get beaten up pretty good a few times.

That's right! "Much of the Spirit's charm lay in his response to intense physical punishment. Hoodlums could slug him, shoot him, bend pipes over his head. The Spirit merely got up and beat the crap out of them." - Jules Feiffer, The Great Comic Book Heroes, 1965.

I hope so. It'll make this movie stand out.

I'd rather watch Frank Miller rip himself off instead of someone else rip off Frank Miller.

I'd rather not watch Frank Miller at all. Doing anything. I'd rather watch Eisner's Spirit faithfully translated to film w/o it being diluted into another Frank Miller work of excesses and bad dialogue.

The Spirit doesn't have to look like a work of Miller's. In fact it should bear almost no resemblance to Miller whatsoever for it to be a faithful adaptation to Eisner's work.

With a villain like Octopus, a femme fatale Sand Saref and a twisted Plaster of Paris, I'd think so. Yes.

If The Spirit does not get his ass handed to him soundly in some fights, then I will be disappointed.

since i'm not that familiar with the character, when you guys say the Spirit often gets the crap beaten out of him... would these be primarily against male villains or female villains? I'd defn be interested in checking out his fights where he gets totally beaten down by female villains.. any recommendations on any issues which are lik ethat?
