This guy gets it... Spot on.
darn it, wolfsbane was very well cast
It is a shame what happened to this film. So much wasted potential.
I wouldn't be surprised if this gets a limited release at some uncertain time (well after August 2019), or goes straight to dvd/streaming.
There have been rumors of the Disney Streaming Channel for a while. Kinberg's hints that this could be R-rated would make it difficult, but PG13 could work.
They have wasted the source material.
Anyone hear anything on the re-shoots that are supposed to be happening now?
The film is pretty much done, well that's how I feel.
If reshoot happens, maybe early nex year and another delay. lol
Disney would already officially own Fox by early next year, few weeks to be exact if its official before March. So it's done.
The reason being that its worth Disney taking the loss rather than risk damaging the brand any further before they reboot it in the MCU. Its a completely logical line of thought and makes a lot of sense from Disney's pov.
Well said. Disney also is thinking about the long term potential of the mutants.
When is this supposed to come out again?
A long time ago I voted it was coming out, now I’m confident neither Dark Phoenix or New Mutants come out theatrically, probably streaming.
I'm quite sure Dark Phoenix is still getting a theatrical release. Before Endgame last night on Imax they had a sneak peak of sorts. Mainly trailer footage but some additional editing involved.
Yeah, I thought that back in January. I've seen new trailers for DP too.
Pushed back another year. I'm guessing it will be quietly released on streaming.
At this point it may leak before any form of release, that way Disney is free to shelf it as expired goods. Watch it.
It may be a cool Pg-13 to put on their streaming service although personally I wouldn't pay for another streaming service. I would however pay for the movie ticket, rent it from Redbox or watch it on Hulu and I think it deserves a theatrical release.
I also don't get how Disney + plans to survive if they can't use rated R content or sexual content. Netflix seems to benefit a lot from sex scenes but Disney is known to keep it clean, despite the hidden subliminal messages.
The rated r stuff would be under Hulu which is now fully owned by Disney. I think they want Disney+ to be family friendly, no rated r films.
Disney has thrived until now without R rated content, I see no problem: quite the contrary, that is a feature for a big chunk of their audience.
I have nothing against more adult or violent fare, I like horror movies, but truth is that the biggest market segment for future subscription based servicess may be pre pubescents.
On another note, those hidden messages can not be that secret and subliminal if so much people believe they are "clearly" there. Maybe there really ain't none?
Honestly, I think Disney will be just fine without R-rated material, but I'm surprised they went to the trouble of getting Fox's catalog if they had no intention of putting movies like Alien and Predator on their streaming service. Sure, they have Hulu, but there was no guarantee they'd have exclusive control over that when they made the deal.
