Okay, I should probably start off by saying that I am in no way insulting The Dark Knight. Quite the contrary, I loved that film to death, and it is probably on my top movies of all time. However, TDK is about as fun as getting a sledge hammer to the gut. As a movie, it was fun to see that someone could put a great Batman story on film, but in the actual movie, there was little to no fun.

Soo...what I'm wondering is, will we ever get a Bat-film that is the best of both worlds, being as accurate to the Batman mythos as Nolan's films (which Burton's/Schumacher's weren't really) and having the fun aspect of Burton's/Schumacher's films (which Nolan's didnt have much of).

And for those of you who dont think it is possible to have a film that is both fun and accurate to Batman, I have four words for you: Batman. the. Animated. Series.

I think in the next one they're going to try to hard to make it like The Dark Knight so we probably won't get the aspect you're wanting. I would personally love a little more fun myself.

I've often asked myself the same thing... I really love Begins and the dark knight, awesome movies. But the kind of stark reality of this one has kind of made me long for a very fantasy, comic book Batman done in live action..... I want to see over the top villains that are colorful and scary, I want to see Man-Bat and Lazarus Pits and Perma white joker ya know? I think we'll see it eventually, the money that Batman films make kind of guarantee they will continue to make them for the next hundred years.

Well, it's been reported that Zack Snyder is interested in doing an adaptation of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. We'll probably get a mix of both seriousness and fantasy-based action there.

Yeah... don't expect that any time soon.

I dunno I think the word fun is used really loosely-my personal opinion this was the most fun movie of the summer.

I also wouldn't consider the original four movies "fun". I never thought Burton's were fun in the least, and where the last two attempted levity, they went over the line into stupidity.

I think the better question would be if we will ever get a true (good) Batman movie that doesn't have to make many sacrifices from print to film in the name of 'realism'.

Personally, I don't ever see that happening. Mostly because when true comic aspects are put in a movie, they look dumb. Not many people could pull off the Bat costume from the comic, and I would assume those that could wouldn't be able to pull off Wayne.

I thought TDK was a lot of fun. For example, the Slaughtermobile/armored truck chase. Nothing but pure, explosiony fun.

i dont know about you but that magic trick was fun for me

I don't know...But I thought it was really fun...Everything The Joker did was kinda fun...In a weird creepy way!

I didn't find Burton's Batfilms very fun at all. I found their "fun" cartoonish and eye rolling at best and disgusting at worst(most of that can be found in Returns.) Don't even get me started on the Schumacher films, though I bet every feeling I have on B/R has been stated many times by many people.

I am interested in seeing a Bat film which very much mirrors the comics though, which uses villains like Mr. Freeze and Man Bat, and has more of the sci fi elements in it(no Aliens though.) I'd like to see a Batman film with a color scheme where the colors look like their ripped from the pages of a comic book and with visuals kind of like 300 and Sin City. Basically where the film LOOKS like a comic book.

Maybe when Nolan finishes up with number 3, WB can try that. Doubt it though, considering the direction they want to go with DC movies.

One more thing though... whatever they do, I think they should keep the Zimmer Batman theme for all future Bat movies. I freaking love it.

Actually, in my opinion, the whole point of the Dark Knight was to turn it into light horror - to show the true meaning of Batman, of what it really represents. Hence the name Dark.

Nolan's movies rule, but I would love to see something done very stylized.... We've probably all seen this already, but damn, this just gets me thinking how cool a professional batman movie with this kind of look would be in the right hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v_XCMuufTQ

That footage was kick ass. Right out of the comics. I'd love to see someone do that. Maybe not world wide release, cuz I can't see it going over so well, but straight to dvd.

i thought the dark knight was about as fun as any batman story should be.

I thought there was plenty of funny parts in TDK.

Example:

After Bruce has a run in at the beginning of the film with the mob dogs and gets bit, Alfred asks him if he was mauled by a tiger and He says "It was a dog" under his breath. Alfred says "What?" which Bruce replies "It was a BIG dog."

I gotta chuckle out of that. Plus the Joker was cracking me up thru the whole film.

Gamble: You think you can just steal from us and get away with it?!

Joker: Yea... (Holding the string to several grenades in his coat)

lol

I think the humor is there, but just like the movie it's more adult in nature. I never want to see goofy Burton/Shumaucher humor ever again. TDK was great and personally I'd take a serious Superhero flick over a goofy "Batman Forever" one any day.

I've never understood this complaint, you walk out of a film and openly say it's one of the best film you've seen in years and yet it wasn't 'fun' enough? If you've enjoyed a film, regardless of it's subject matter or tone, does that not constitute some level of fun? What's missing? Cheezy one liners? Overblown CG action sequences? Hotter females? I don't quite get it.

God it's a vicious cycle...If the film is too fantastical, people want realism. If it's too realistic, people want fantasy.

It'll never end!

I never said I wanted fantasy. I just want to walk out of a Batman movie without feeling asthough I have just been punched in the stomach.

Lighten up, folks.
